Sylvester = new year?

Hi there my fellow tranceaddicts.
I have a question for you guys.
In Israel, when we celebrate the new civil year (we have a calander based on the Jew tradition) we often refer to it as the sylvester.
Now, Sylvester was some sort of pope who were an Anti-cemist, but that's beside the point.
My question is, do you english-speakers cristians call the night of the new year's "sylvester"? |

in Czech Republic we also say Sylvester, dunno why, but it might be some kind of "eastern" term for New year's eve? :)
I know polish and slovak people use sylvester too.
But we do spell it "Silvester" |

we have "name days" in poland. its like a birthday for each name. On Dec 31st its Sylvester's and someone else's day, so we call it Sylwester too |

Spelling is not the issue here. Could have been my mistake
