DETECTIVES investigating Britain's biggest ever robbery have arrested a third person, it was disclosed today.

A 41-year-old woman was held at a building society in Bromley, south London, yesterday, Kent Police said.

She was arrested by officers from Scotland Yard and has now been taken to a police station in Kent.

She will be questioned by detectives on suspicion of handling stolen goods, a spokesman for the force said.

Police also revealed a saloon car thought to have been used by the gang has been found.

The Volvo, which cops believe robbers used to abduct the manager of the Securitas depot, Colin Dixon, was found burning in the village of Leeds near Maidstone last night.

Mr Dixon's car, a silver Nissan Almera, has also now been located. It was found last night parked in the Horse pub at Detling.

Staff at the Portman Building Society where this morning's arrest was made, were instructed not to comment on what happened.

Dee Lesurf, 47, manager of the Zucchi shoe shop opposite, said she saw officers arrive at around 5pm yesterday.

She said: "I saw all the police yesterday. It was late afternoon or early
evening.

"It was quite amazing really."

She added that she did not know the arrest was apparently connected to the Tonbridge robbery until she saw the news on television this morning.

She said: "This stupid woman had this bundle of notes. How obvious.

"It is right on our doorstep. It is quite surreal.

We didn’t know what was going on. Not a lot of exciting things happen in Bromley. When I saw the police come out of there last night, I thought there could be trouble down McDonalds like there usually is."

She said she saw one police car outside the building society, which is across the road from her shop, but there was heavy traffic at the time and there could have been more.

Another shop manager, who did not wish to be named, said: "We see police around here all the time. Bromley is not the nice place it was."
