HAH! i knew you had your fingers on flame mode when you read this but do not fear. Im nott talking about headphones for monitoring or dj'ing...BUT something for the mp3 player.
The thing is that i cant use earplugs, they shread my ears like hotrazorblades and they just make me uncomfortable. It was a long time ago i had a pair of phones that really worked for me. The headphones (mdr-cd580) i use for my computer or homestereo are a little bit to power hungry for my tiny iriver (e10). And i had a pair of sony sony mdr-v150 but the sound was really muffled and didnt make my e10 any justice...or any machine for that matter.
But there's another problem to, the cord. When i find a nice pair of headphones like my mdr-cd580 i have a 300feet long cord to fill up my pokets with.
Any suggestions on Headphones?
Oh and btw i did use the search button but IF i missed anything a repost here would be helpfull, sorry for taking your time heh. |

Sennheiser hd201
worth much more than 18 bucks. They are real good for the price.
If you are looking for decent headphones you will always have an issue with the cord.
Just take a portion of it and bundle it up nicely and use a zip tie to hold it ;) |

What should i look for?
I almost always look for the hz range and when i saw that the sennheisers had "only" 21-18000 Hz. they kind of put me off. The problem i HATE with headphones are that they almost always sound muffled, like if the higher hz dissapeared. |

These numbers are irrelevant in a sense.
What matters the most is real world frequency response and perception.
They come up with these numbers on the factory specifications by running the equipment under optimal conditions ( and unrealistic might I add ).
If you are looking for high clarity and fidelity you need to spend more money.
Also keep in mind that you are listening to mp3s while on the go ( that's my assumption at least ) these are certainly not the best of conditions to listen to music in an optimum way.
In my opinion these headphones are a little heavy on the bass otherwise there's not really any issues with the higher frequencies, and with the great sound isolation what more could I ask for at that price?
People always say you get what you pay for... here you get a whole lot more :wtf: :gsmile: |

True. And the market is now flooded with different brands all trying to push their product with unrealistic specifications. What the community ends up getting is too much of too little. As the boundaries keep getting pushed outwards further & further what you get is an ascending sonic convulsion effect that ends up putting to much pressure on the consumer community.
if you were to pay the extra money and get yourself some studio monitors, then the market will be cycling back to what was happing in the late 1990s. You see back then people had the right idea and pushed the boundaries, but they also knew their limits. In today’s society people don’t know their limits and then, when purchasing new headphones, go outside their budget zone & spend in a cost quadrant they would not usually spend their money in.
Who is to say that this will not affect you in the immediate future? With all those frequencies and bass levels in which your perception has tuned to falls into the lower percentile. It will be a rude awaking when you finally realise that you don’t actually have the personality to deal with child abuse and slavery. Maybe you should go for a swim in the sea instead & listen to the gentle sounds of a seal yelping as a shark bites off its flippers. |

my last pair of headphones (sony) has lasted for about 3 years and still going strong. They have been used everyday, chucked, dropped, lots of power fed through them etc
the current ones i'm using (audio technica ad700) i've been using for about a year and still looks and sounds as good as the first day i bought them
but these headphones aren't what you call portable friendly...the size of them makes them as subtle as a pair of subs strapped to your head |

go to a pro-aduio shop and try out the shure e-2 earbuds.
they are nothing like normal earbuds.
i use these on my ipod, and i also use them on stage when i play with a band.
they isolate outside noise, so even though it seems like the music is louder, it's at a much lower volume . .giving you really accurate sound reproduction, as well as reducing the risk of permanent hearing damage that people get from using headphones/conventional earbuds
it's worth it! |

The man speaks the truth. The e3cs are nice too, bit smaller and snappier, but you wont be able to hear any difference really. |
