or working at a golf course in general? I am posting this to get info about golf course maintenance. I would prefer to know a little bit about it before I contact different golf courses for a job.
Any info on the following would be appreciated:
-job duties
-prior experience necessary
-common hours or work schedule |

in all seriousness, the landscaping t hat goes into sculpting a course is very tough. the general upkeep is easy, greens are cut real short & watered/dealt with in whatever way needed, fairways are cut at a normal length & just need trimming & the upkeep of divots being repaired. rough can just let left as it is :p |

You pretty much sacrifice your summer. 6 days a week, about 8 - 9 hours monday - friday, only about 4 - 5 on whichever weekend day you work. Work starting at sunrise. You'll end up working about 15 hours a day for 2 weeks straight if your course hosts a major tournament. Depending on the course you might not need experience, you'll just start out with bull jobs to make sure you have at least half a brain and then they'll train you. (They won't mind training you because most places have to train you even if you worked on a golf course your whole life because the equipment might be different and for insurance purposes). Also, if you get an interview, say you might be interested in becoming a superintendant or doing something with golf courses because it seems fun, they'll like the compliment, and they will think you will stay around for a while. They like people who stick around because they don't have to retrain the position. Its not bad, the only problems I have with it is that there are times when youre standing there with a hose, getting paid just as much as someone who is busting their ass, and there are times when your busting your ass and getting paid as much as someone who is just standing there watering grass, and theres not usually a set time your getting off (sometimes its noon, sometimes its 5pm) and the 1 day off a week thing and its not easy to get time off. (other then the 5 months I take off for the winter)
You should try and get a job, its pretty easy work, decent pay, and a lot of hours, which I like. |

i used to caddy for rich ferrari driving old men a couple years back, and from what i saw, course maintenance is a f*ckin bitch, depending on how nice the course is. i was caddying at a very private country club that held a senior pga event about 5 years ago |
