So today i get called in after another guy had his yearly review and it didn't go the way the boss wanted it to so to speak.
so after that he calls me in right away, seemed like a way for him to flex his authoritive muscles.
"Brad, we're really having an issue with you being late."
"Oh?" i say,
"Well in the first 6 months, you had 6 lates (and by late they mean clocking in at 8:31 instad of 8:30)"
Confused by this I asked "I was late on tuesday, and friday I was sick, but came in at 11."
"yes brad..but they need to know that you care about your job"
"I CAME IN ON FRIDAY EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE S."
"Thats fine brad, but people are starting to worry"
it goes on like that for a while,
he says stuff like "If this was a manufacturing plant, and you showed up late on your assembly line, the whole place wouldn't be able to function"
"but this isn't an assembly line. its a warehouse, and I do the returns."
it goes on and on some more and I eventualy come up with "well what about those times i punch out at 5:15 instead of 5:00, and i dont get paid for it? why does that get ignored"
"well brad, its because we need you to do more for the company than working 8 hours."
ing bull. i didn't yell and quit..because i've matured...a little bit overthe years....but this iswhat i hate about working for a small company. they're ing gaylords. i'm going to quit. |

The same (sort of) thing recently happened at my work. I make more than a person who's been there longer than I have (yay for being friends with the store director). Last month they were giving me a ton of hours and cut back on the hours of the other guy. He was having financial trouble at the time, so I gave him three of my five shifts for each week for about three weeks to help him out.
I was approached by management and asked if I really wanted to stay there. I told them yes and when they asked me why I was giving away my hours I explained it to them. They said, "Oh, that's a nice gesture, but you're a better worker than he is. When you do that, it tells us that you don't want to work here."
So I agreed that I wouldn't do it again, and took a full 40 hours last week. All of a sudden starting this week, I'm down to 16 and they're now giving him 40. ing bull.
Edit: That's also why I like unions. We have the ability to show up to work a maximum of five minutes late without reprocussion. |

That reminds me a few weeks ago. I sent an email to my new team leader that i was taking the next day off. He yells from from across the room in front of my co-workers "ARE YOU REQUESTING TOMORROW OFF!" in a rude voice.
I'm pretty pissed off at this point: "Is that what it said in the email? I'm sure i said i'm taking the day off!"
Him: "I NEED TO SEE YOU OUTSIDE NOW!!"
so we start yelling at each other and it pretty much ends with,
"LOOK! I'm not requesting crap off. My contract states that i don't have sick days or vacation days. I have general leave days. What that means is, as a courtesy i'm advising you that i'm not coming in tomorrow. I don't have to request crap (actually used that word.) As a matter of fact i'm done yelling. If you feel you feel the need to contuine to talk to me, do it when you are calmed down."
After that i walked off. He later sent an email apologizing for his reaction. :) Ahhhh... I love my job. |

you think this is something because you're in a small company? :haha:
most large companies that make you punch in at certain hours put you up for review or give you a warning if you are late 3 times.
punching in at 8.31 9.30 11.00 14.50 doesn't make a difference because it isn't 8.30
Learn how to play your cards right next time you get called in because with the type of behaviors you are giving it sounds like they wouldn't mind giving you the boot.
Do not give them a reason to fire you ... because that's what you are doing right now with your poor defense skills.
and ps
6 lates in 6 months that's a lot! |

anyhow, if they are bitching about you being late by 1 minute, that is stupid. but im shure its not always just 1 minute, or else they wouldnt say anything. anyhow i always tried to be @ my work 10 minutes before i was supposed to be there... that way i never had that problem. try it. |
