A full term pregnancy is between 37 and 40 weeks and the survival rate for babies born at 23 weeks is just 30 percent.
Until now, the American Association of Pediatrics has not considered a child born at that stage and weight to be viable. |

A seven-month-old baby is in a stable condition in hospital after reportedly swallowing an ecstasy tablet.
The girl was taken to Darent Valley Hospital, in Dartford, after ambulance crews were called to Gravesend High Street on Monday night.
She was moved to a specialist unit at St Thomas's Hospital in London, before being transferred back to Dartford.
Kent Police said an 18-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs. |
