CD drives breaking down and not reading the CD... It has to me many times.

Ive tried switching different drives... :(

Switched Pci cards... :( that didnt' work

switching plugs inside the computer :whip: and each time i put a disk in, and open it... it says, "Please insert disk" when the disk is already in the drive; but it knows it's there.

Now im using my dad's labtop to download my music... but to avoid the same thing to happen, what should i do and what did you guys do about a similar problem

as in it was external and it's connected to a PCI:USB 2/4 port card?

I'm assuming these drives use IDE interface and not SATA. Have you checked your IDE cable?

i've found the life span of a cd-r drive is about 3-5 yrs. this will vary based on frequency of use. not a big deal they're cheap so who cares?
