question about lawsuits

hey lets say, i were getting sued and the person was sueing me for lets say a really ridiculous amount (2 million) and its obvious i am going to lose, will i have to pay them or what? just curious |

heh, i'd file for bankruptcy. i dont know if that would help u any but hey its worth a shot. If not i would flea the country for a little bit imo. |

The judge or jury decide what you have to pay... it depends on what you have done, how much money you have, to what extent you are liable... |

...not to mention you can have a "settlement". i dunno about nations outside the usa thogh. people who sue= weaklings. |

The Judge will determine based on facts what a 'fair' amount will be. Its become common that people sue for way too much in the hopes that the judge will give higher settlements.
This is especially true in suing big companies, because the trend is that they often settle out of court, so the person suing ususally asks for a stupidly high amount in hopes that the company will pay a big settlement to avoid publicity and the wasted time of a court case.
If you get sued personally, the person suing has to have a reasonable figure. If they sue you 10 million for calling them a bad name, they will get nothing [wink]
Judges are even being more tough on outrageous lawsuits, now if you sue for a stupidly high number the judge may award you nothing even if you win. |
