Is there a name for the type of smile where the teeth are not shown, and the mouth is closed?

grin isnt right at all. smirk may be what i'm looking for...

smirk is more one-side-of-the-mouthed, & with evil intent
Yan
As far as I know, there's no difference between a teeth-shown smile and a closed-mouth smile.

A smirk also refers to a fine piece of dust when it enters the eye. This often leads to an uncomfortable feeling, and results in the sufferer searching in their eye to remove the foreign item.

Out of context.

A smirk is generally considered to have the traits of arrogance and/or sarcasm. Not a true 'smile'

It was the best word i could come up with that wasnt smile.

Id say a smile is what you've described and a grin is when you display teeth
Sunsnail
Nah a smile includes the teeth smile
