Health Inspectors Become Ill After Eating Bad Food At Restaurant Xmas PartyTuesday December 23, 2008 CityNews.ca Staff On the surface, it doesn't seem that unusual - workers get together for a Christmas party at a local restaurant, only to eat something bad and wind up with food poisoning. It's a scenario that's occurred too many times to too many people. But when it happened to a group of workers in Lawrenceville, Illinois last week, it left many of them red faced as well as seriously ill.
The reason? They work for the city's health department. And one of their main jobs is checking out restaurants to ensure customers don't get sick from bad food. At least 72 people were at the buffet celebration. Of those, 42 came down with something serious.
Experts believe one of the dishes many of them ate that day - likely the cold diced ham served in the salad bar - was the main culprit. Those who were well enough to come back to work are investigating the restaurant to try and track the source of the outbreak. For now, the place remains closed, not a big surprise considering what the unfortunate diners do for a living. |
