Some guy from Canada worked with me once to throw a party in Seattle with Johan Gielen... I told him the only way he'd make any money on it is if he made it a all-ages/16+ show.
He didn't listen and booked him 21+ at a club that at the time wasn't known for big dance acts and he lost like 6 grand on the night.
Different cities have slightly different methods of promotion and what works and doesn't and what age-ranges you are looking at. My advice would be to find local forums that cater to your city and see what kind of events are playing there and work along those lines.
We are lucky here in the Northwest, we have a very active online community at http://nwtekno.org/ and basically every party is announced there first and promoted heavily on their forums.
I have been considering doing a bit of promotion work for my own parties but I don't know. I'd need to really put a lot of effort into it and get all the people I need on the same page at the same time (idoru! wrz!). |
