i just started my 1st real website idea and im at a loss of what to do.

i want to get on digg and reddit but that's quite challenging. ive already submitted to search engines and stuff but what else can i do :(

the website is pretty legit anyway:
http://www.sweetbrah.org
Arbiter
http://www.ffalink.com/

make sure you use your real email address when u sign up :gsmile:

If you have a lot of text content on it, it will turn up more in searches, eventually - that takes time. Image content too - put a bit of thought into what you name your images because that helps (as opposed to just 001.jpg, 002.jpg etc).

Having links to it helps, not sure where you'd want to put them though.

I dunno what else, add it to StumbleUpon?
r5a
thats a legit call, im gonna do that right now (stumbleupon)

ive already hit 500 refreshes and that hasn't been me :D

Cool man :D

After a while look at your stats if you have them (something like urchin stats), and see what is getting the most hits, where most entries are coming from etc., and use that as a guide to develop your site.

So... is that all it does? Just refresh for random pics?
r5a
yep for now
Sushipunk
Ok. So I guess you're going to have Google ads or banner ads in there at some point?

Also, are you hosting all those pics yourself? If so, you might want to consider copyright issues on some of them. I randomly got a Calvin & Hobbes comic strip, and you could likely be bitch-slapped for that (probably not sued, but you could lose your hosting if it happens a few times).

its hosted on network solutions, pretty stable guise. and the bw limit is thru the roof i believe.

as far as copyright goes ill do takedown requests after telling people to off, most of it is going to be user created anyway

With copyright, you might not get the chance to take the offending images down yourself (or send a '-off' note). If it infringes rights, it's likely that they will just contact 'network solutions' because they're your host, and have them pull it. You won't get a say. If it happens a few times, you're likely to get your kicked off your host, so bare that in mind.

I host a lot of live mixes from TA DJs, and I've had a couple of them pulled off my webspace by RIAA. No messages, no notification, just pulled. Dreamhost just emails me to let me know.

Obviously, RIAA and MP3s attract legal stuff more than you likely would with images, but it's something to consider, if you end up making any cash off this site.
