Targeted Online Advertising

What do you guys think/feel about this? I've been noticing some ads on the top of the page that are clearly being targeted at me based on websites I recently visited. This has been going on for a while now, especially Facebook.
I don't know, I'm not so sure I like my browsing habits being tracked. I mean I know it's not personal information they're using, and some might say I only stand to benefit from this because these ads are somewhat relevant to me, but I just can't get over the idea.
Your thoughts? |

I found it disturbing at first but I've grown accustom to it. Its pretty neat seeing naked porn stars in TA banner. Once a week I use spybot to clean out all those tracking cookies. |

You're going to get advertising wherever you go, unless you block it from your browser. Makes no real difference to me if it's targeted or not. It's not like someone is watching your online behaviour, really, it's just going through a funky algorithm.
I ing LOL at how much I get dating sites advertised at the top of TA here. "You post on TA? Must be single" :haha: |

You can stop most of the tracking by using a whitelist for cookies. |

I was once at work on a Thanksgiving, browsing some rap thread on TA, so the ad at the top assumed I was both lonely and black. Oh, Boqueesha Jenkins - when will I ever see your lovely visage again?!
Script blocker, filter Googleanalytics.com, you won't see personalised ads anymore....

I find gmail's ads unnerving, despite being entirely aware of their automated nature. The music ones are hilarious. "Click here for the newest techno music!" Yeah, I really give a about some c-grade music site which has to advertise to attract viewers. |

Personally I'd rather receive advertising I may be interested in versus completely unrelated crap (like an ad for tampons)
