We Dutch ruled the entire world in the 17th century, but in the history books is almost nothing to find about how we got rich by transporting and selling slaves. It's happening everywhere...
Nevertheless, America must be one of the most hypocryt countries in the world. I still like the American way of living, but the politicians in the US are a bunch of lowlifes!
If I were ever to move to Northern America, I would rather live in Canada. Because of that chauvinism. But on the other hand if it wasn't for the Yanks, we would all be speaking Russian (or German).
In the end, America is too patriotic. That leads to hiding facts from it's history. America is a great country, but not always honest in what it did in the past. Maybe the US should listen to us Europeans a bit more?
Very curious about the future of America...

-History is written by the Victor.
In other words yes this happens everywhere, the US history books are definitely somewhat biased. Hoevwe, they aren't that bad compared to some places, for example china, where they are taught outright lies about the history of china.
and probably the worst is the religious schools of the taliban, it would make you sick to hear what they teach those poor children from an early age, it is no wonder that they grow up filled with hate. |

Yes, I know of one book that shows America's history in a non-biased way. Check out 'A People's History Of The United States' by Howard Zinn. This shows all the bad stuff America did from when Columbus landed to Vietnam. The guy was arrested back in the 70s for this stuff. This totally made me see what really happened in History in America. Anyway, no country is perfect and although America did a lot of bad , so have a lot of other countries.
BTW, I had to read the book for a history class.:) |

Yea, its very common. People are tought what people want them to know, which inst neccesarily the truth. Facts are manipulated, stuff is hidden, and there are outright lies used to make history favor a particular group of people. |

I think that it happens everywhere, I can see it in the way some history books describe the way we lived in Indonesia, some books said we did nothing wrong there, but there are a few books that also tell the bad stuff that we did.
I don't know how bad it is in America, I never read an American history book, but I can imagine that it is worse then here in Holland (don't feel offended please) |

as long as the kids get tought what to be they will grow up and teach other kids what to be.
i think it will just go on like that forever over there ;) |

The story about the US and the bomb really bugs me. Cause they teach you that it was needed to end the war, but it was recently revealed that it had nothing to do with that! They just had to justify all the money they put into the project. Looking at it from this perspective, killing hundreds of thousands of ppl sounds really cruel and inhuman. But you need to remember that the norms in the past were different and there wasn't such free press coverage as there is today.
Today if one person dies it's all over the news and there's investigations and stuff. In the old times nobody would've heard of it unless it was millions. This is true for all governments, which all have dark secrets. It's only due to globalization that we are starting to discover the horrors of the history of mankind... |
