Alright, A couple weeks ago, I have been haveing a weird problem, I was running Win98SE and all of a suden, I couldnt go onto any messaging service, Well, I can But I cant respond to messages on ICQ, And AIM wont stay open longer then about a minute. So I formated, And decided to install Redhat 7.2.. Same problem. Installed Debian. Same Problem.:( So I borrowed my friends laptop,(I have more of a use to it then she does) And it works perfectly. I can stay on AIM for days, I can respond to Messages on ICQ, I dont see what is the Problem?:conf: Before I throw my computer out the window I would like some suggestions on what I can possibly do. I have never seen anything like this and am wondering if I should try to buy a new network card or something. Thanks for any help ;) :D ;) :)

Dude, that's a weird problem! I know aol service has been having problems lately, get d/c all the time. I don't know what those programs are... They way it seems to me is that theres a firewall intefering, it can only be a software problem.

p.s. Your from kensington? Ever do down to the pike?

check little like nic and ... also, try removing a stick of ram at a time. one of em might have gotten buggered up. happened to a co-worker the other day. pulled out the ram, formatted, windows ran like a charm.

Considering it looked like you ruled out an OS issue and you proved it had to be something with your hardware by borrowing your friend's laptop I'd have to say a hardware problem as well.
Try replacing the NIC...

Alright, Tried *Replacing my ram* (only had 256) Wasnt the problem Replaced the network card with my Parents working one, Nope. This is bothering me uncontrolablly. I might try buying a new switch. Maybe this will clear up anything. Cause After I went through all the trouble, I ran my computer downstairs and disconnected my parents and used their cable, And it worked. But if it was the switch, Why would my friends laptop work and not my desktop?! So I will try a new switch, And after this, I dont know, Maybe I will borrow my friends Hard Drive and see whats up.
