At work, just recieved the following e-mail...

...just some points that have been raised by various recent occurances and meetings....
1. MP3's - MP3's should not be stored on the network, they slow down the backup, if run from network locations it slows the network down. MP3's should be stored on your local harddisk, and played from there. For legal reasons you should only play MP3's that you have ripped from your own CD's, you should not borrow or copy MP3's that have been ripped from other peoples CD's (though there may be a case for 'fair use' in just borrowing someone elses MP3's the company, to be on the safe side, says NO!)
2. Email - People have been complaining about the email problems recently. Most of the problems were caused by people sending excessivly large emails. The limit of 5Mb should now stop this. In general the slowness is also caused by people having mailboxes that are huge. Examine the below sizes for an idea of the databse size....

....these numbers are kilobytes so the first three numbers give you the size in megabytes. There are four management mailboxes here and three TeamLeader mailboxes. These ten mailboxes make up about half of the entire email database, these are one of the causes of poor performance. The average mailbox size is 180Mb, we eventually want to make a mailbox limit of 200Mb.
The main cause of mailbox bloat is keeping attachments in the email. Save the attachments to disk somewhere, if it is project related there is already a place on the network for it on S:, do not keep attachments in your inbox and sent items. Delete items you no longer need, archive items that are rarely looked at. Look out for future emails on good email practise.
3. Internet Usage - It was raised that most people thought that we could not track internet usage. Well here is a look at the most popular sites in no particular order....
Google.com (hardly suprisingly as it is the set up homepage, though there were looks at a large number of google country sites)
msn.com and msn.co.uk (also hardly suprising as it is the IE browsers default homepage)
bbc.co.uk (mainly news and weather)
maplin.co.uk
multimap.com and multimap.co.uk
skfreliability.com
bp.com
maintenanceonline.co.uk
Now for some of the more estoric places people have been shufteying
lr.org (Lloyds of London)
parkers.co.uk
Guardian.co.uk (most popular of various newspapers looked at)
tranceaddict.com
serenescreen.com
scottish-rowing. org
cheapmobilephones.com
matthewalgie.com (some sick freak looking up coffee stuff *shudder*)
o2.co.uk (the most popular of various mobile phone carrier sites, as was genies sndtxt site)
betfair.com (someone having a flutter)
bluestreak.com
There are many other sites, that people just stop by to ebank or check out various solicitors, some estate agents and some quick look at shops such as dorothy perkins, or online stores such as dvdpacific.com, or just to check out their fave bands such as statusquo.co.uk.
