yeah there are usually some outdoor camping events that could be worthwhile for my situation. some of these events are psytrance, but i just really want to be out there so i might go. otherwise i know some friends who say they could get me into the mantra lounge..

Summerfest will probably drop the ball on booking a decent DJ(s) this year, but that's another option you've got.
as for Mantra, they're pretty strict at the door with carding, they stick everyone's ID into the scanner/screen thingy... but if your friends can get you in there's usually at least 1 or 2 decent DJs to check out there every month, as well as the locals who play there.

yeah i was kind of sketched about going to mantra... who do you think could be at summerfest? have you ever checked out any of the outdoor stuff in wisco?

Summerfest is completely unpredictable. 2 years ago they had Paul Oakenfold and Felix da Housecat which was a pretty good show... 3 years ago it was BT and Crystal Method... last year was Moby, but i didn't go. i'd like to see them have a decent lineup this year but i'm not holding my breath. it's a great place to see a DJ, despite the benches (no dancing room)... but just being able to party outside, and the general vibe of it, has always been pretty cool.
then again i was really fucked up.
can't say i've checked out many outdoor events... they seem to be mostly rave-type events and i can't really say i've got a strong appreciation for that scene. too many kids, sketched out crackheads, and DJs who don't have a clue.
then again i had a fake when i was 18-21 so it was always pretty easy to get into clubs.
hope this helps.

i think they will have blueshift again in august....you can have a good time if you plan ahead and camp in a smart place.
if you keep your eyes open, you can find 18+ events once in awhile in madison....espec. at the few EDM gigs UW has...probably not worth your trip though.
i hear rumors (on the internets) of raves in edgerton...
Posted by OZzz on Apr-17-2006 14:57:
do they play more actual trance and house music at blueshift as opposed to psy like i have been seeing at most of these outdoor events? that would be great.
Posted by glass on Apr-17-2006 15:02:
I wouldn't hold your breath for trance. I'm sure they'll have some house there. Its a raver type party so it will more than likely be hard house. An ass load of D&B, and hardcore. You'll have to wait for the line up, a few years ago Christopher Lawrence was there. I was there that year. Most of the Djs weren't my style though, but wait and see what the lineup is.

at the first blueshift, they had some good trance at a few of the smaller stages, i was surprised.....and they had skylab2000 in the main building....that was insane....picture a guy in the middle of the floor with all his gear...pc, effects processors, samplers, etc and a circle of people going nuts around him.....
they did have a LOT of DnB though.....probably a solid 35% were DnB DJs....

hey hey, anyone know if Mantra ever does underage nights? It doesnt say Gabriel and Dresden is a 21+ event on their website, and specifically notes 21+ for other events? any thoughts? this would be huge........

Wow... where did this come from?!?!?
Thanks for posting... too bad I'm fuckin' sick (And would have had a gig that night anyway
) I could really go for seeing Sandra again... The last time I saw her she was piss drunk and on god knows what at the Panama in Amsterdam having the time of her life behind the decks... Sure she's not the best DJ, but worth the show IMO... And I'd love to see Trent...
Good looking out Ozzz

Just don't expect amazing mixes. When she's on, she's great, especially if you dig her style. There's another TA on here, Tony (glass on TA), who is a pretty big Sandra fan too, and he and I have both seen her when she's on fire, and when she's so out of her mind that she can't even see the mixer...
Funny little story, we used to go see Sandra every month at Panama in Amsterdam (I was there for a bit a few years back), and this had to have been at the time when she was enjoying the "recreational" activities a bit more than usual> I probably met and partied with her between 5 and 6 times in 4 months, and each time we met, she never remembered me.
Fast forward to a year later, I see Sandra play out in San Francisco, and almost immediately after her set she sees me chillin near the booth waiting to give it a "What up" before the end of the night and tell her she played a good set, and instantly she looks at me and says "Do I know you from somewhere?" I just laughed and said I thought we'd run into each other once or twice before, and her response was almost instant: "Rob the American from Amsterdam."

Have fun bro! Hopefully we'll get to meet up with you at some show throughout this summer... Hopefully they'll do Stellar Spark Summer Edition again!

Yup, it'd be all ages at the Rave! Last year they had Sharam from Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, and Paul Oakenfold headlining. All in all, it was one of the best nights out I've ever had in my life!

if they do it again this summer, i really hope they book a lineup as good as (or better than!) last years lineup.
