Did anyone else go to Sandra last night?

I went and had a pretty good time. To be honest I enjoyed Trents set more than i enjoyed Sandras. Before last night I hadnt really ever heard of Trent and didnt know what to expect, when he hit the decks it was pretty much pure energy. Im the kind of person that will react to watever the music does to me, and he had me dancing with a huge smile on my face. As for Sandra, her set was almost too "techy" for me. I dig her deep dark hard style but she really layed on some thick tech sounds. Thats ok in moderation but I kind of felt like it was a little much at times. Also, I would have to say that she wasnt exactly "on". I dont want to say she had trainwrecks or anything but it definitely seemed like she was fucking up at times. None the less I had a really fun time. I thought it was cool just to get to see her spin live. She seemed like a sweetheart and wasnt completely trashed or anything like I have heard rumors about. All in all it was worth the $12 to get in.

On a side note..... there was like a million asian kids all crammed up front. A lot of the females were dancing which is great, but all the dudes were just standing around. It pissed me off a few times whe they would stand all close to me when I was trying to dance and give me no damn room. I dont claim to be good at dancing or anything, but its nice to be able to move to the music.

Were any other wisco TA's there?

that's pretty much how i felt about the sets here in mpls on friday. trent tore the place up and then sandra kinda took a step backwards. she had a couple rough mixes here too.

glad you enjoyed the show tho. i was supposed to make the trip but decided not to at the last minute.

Posted by DejaFua on May-15-2006 04:29:

Yeah, I was there, I was one of the openers from 9:45-10:30. I enjoyed myself too but I actually had a really hard night the night before so I was feeling real sick. I just sat at the bar the whole night and dang! their drinks there costs as much as in Miami!! hehe! $7 beer & $7.50 for mixed drinks!! Overall though, it was a good night, glad I came out!!

Well I got to this show late and left early. So I can't really make a review of the show. I caught the last fourty minutes of trents set and the first twenty of saundra's. Not really enough time to get a good feel. I did enjoy the end of trents set and I was digging the begining of sandra's set. My gf was feeling a bit sick so we bailed.

Posted by apple country on May-18-2006 15:55:

I won free tix for Sandra this past Saturday. Not happy with that Trent guy, his set killed my drunk. Didn't get into his Techno.

Sandra was good. Not great but good. She dropped some familiar tunes. Loved the G+D in here set. I didn't think her skills were that bad, but she was very laid back as far as her job went. Seemed like she was tired from tour.

Yeah the crowd was odd. Not uncommon for the asian scene to have a night out. Not a big deal for me though. I didn't think that many people would be there in the first place.

Happy overall with the night.

I was suprised they had the show in the side bar and not the main room, but it was the right amount of of space for the people that were there.

haha. small world indeed. me, my ex and one of my friends were there too, also right up front pretty much right in front of the left speaker (left from the decks facing the crowd). hell of a night for sure. looks like the summerfest lineup this year is pretty weak. tortured soul is comin back which will be fun to check out but ill be spending most my time at summerfest drinking and watching bands. the DJ stage just doesnt look promising. im sure the local chitown DJs can pull a good set but i'll be with a friend who isnt really into this music so if its no big names, im not gonna bother. maybe we'll get lucky and they'll pull another rave venue...

if it was 18+, 21+ to drink i'd be there but unless its a rave show nothing in milwaukee is like that so... nope

hope you have fun

Posted by lcid on May-19-2006 13:23:

i was at his '04 Mantra show which was insaaaane... so if you can go, GO!

i have friends in town from NY that night, and they aren't into EDM one bit so i don't think we'll make it there.

WISCO!!!!!

My name is Matt Richard, I live in Marshfield, WI. I'm a trance DJ and no one in this town really enjoys trance except for maybe a few. I do shows at one of the bars in Marshfield, and it would be awesome if like 50 of you guys just came out one weekend and were on the floor, I would die in ecstasy (and the music would do that to you too).

I'm from a production crew up here called Echalon Productions, we're a very small, new company aimed at bringing the trance vibe to the midwest and wresting it away from the cold, dead hands of DnB and Dark Core. (Happy Hardcore can stay, I love those kids.)

LAST WEEKEND'S STORY AND WHY WE NEED YOU:
So, anyway, last weekend I bring all my decks and stuff down to this bar where we had done two great shows so far and we set up and we start. Suddenly there are people coming up to us asking if we can play country and rap or whatever - to which we respond: "No, I'm sorry. We don't have that music with us, and we've spent time putting together these sets. If you don't like it, please try the other clubs and bars in town." Now, this has never happened before when we had done the Thursday shows we had been doing, so they make us turn off the music for 20 minutes so these people can listen to the jukebox blah blah. I'm mad now, and my DJ's walk out. So here I am with a bunch of equipment, 3 hours left in the night and about 2 hours of set. I spun all the way through, but because of those people there was no one on the dance floor and those people left after the 20 minute break.

So, I ask this of you: June 9th will be the next show. It will be held in Marshfield, Wisconsin at the Utopia Lounge (112 east 2nd street, Marshfield WI 54449) starting at 10pm. We'de love to see some trance fans there. I go by the name Freefall and I spin deep, proggy melodic which turns into fast spacey trance through the set. There will be 2 other awesome DJ's there. Pollex-Troy and Faber. We can make this an awesome show if we had people to dance and enjoy it. Places to crash if needed will be available, all we ask are good vibes.

Secondly: If there are any DJ's who spin trance or whatever and are looking for a gig, we are currently looking for timeslots to be filled. Email me at [email protected] with a link to a demo (but not the demo itself) just use yousendit.com and I'll listen to it and get back to you in two days at the most. If it works, we can give you gas money for the trip here and back.

Thanks everybody for your time,

RAVE ON,

Matt (FreeFall)

Central Wisconsin isn't the greatest place for dj's m8, you're going to have that pretty much anywhere you try to pull that off in Portage County. Believe me, I feel your pain, as a UWSP student there definitely aren't really any opportunities to put anything together up here that will go anywhere. This is RAVE country... and that is truly unfortunate, because the people who throw events up here are genuinely some of the sketchiest people I've ever met in my life.

Thank God for house parties, college kids, drugs, alcohol, and house music!

Yeah, unfortunately the mid-west isn't really open to this kinda music in large masses. Too bad I live in the Twin Cities, or I'd definately come out to support the scene. Sorry about the shitty night, hopefully you'll get some people to come to your next show that actually like EDM.
