Does it? I'd never heard of that scene. I'd say the "I am not an animal!" scene from The Elephant Man (also a black and white biopic from 1980, funnily) is more iconic.

The line I'm referring to is the one from On The Waterfront, which I've heard sampled in a club record before, as uttered by De Niro.

Go see it in IMAX if you can. The screen quality was fucking insane and given the shots and sound design, I'd say it's worth it. I'm sure the normal screen are good too though.

Forgot to reply to this haha. Our IMAX screen in our city has some pretty dumb movies and documentaries playing all the time on it. For instance, it's playing the Lego movie and Inception (wtf that was like 10 years ago) tonight. Next week it's strictly a couple of documentaries. I'll probably have to wait another year just to see First Man on our IMAX screen, so I might have to just watch it in Standard. Better than nothing at least.

Has anyone caught Bohemian Rhapsody yet? We're hunkering down tonight and tomorrow for the snowstorm, but on Sunday we will probably check it out. Super excited!

Go see it in standard, it's still well worth it. Catch the imax whenever you get a chance.

I'm not sold on Bohemian Rhapsody. All the trailers I've seen (in fairness only two), Malek seems to be out of his depth.

maybe it's not conveyed well via a trailer, but it seems like those shoes were too big to fill. Malek looks to scrawny and the mainstage charisma too contrived. I'll hold final judgement off though until I see the full thing.

My mum actually went to art school with Freddie Mercury.

Said he was quite the twat, basically all he did was walk around all day long telling anyone in earshot that one day he's going to be the biggest rock star in the world.

Which in fairness.......

Just came from the theatres, and I'd give the movie a 6, 6.5 out of 10. Malek was really great for the role imo, his part was the standout.

The only issue was the story... for me it felt more of a Best Hits concert, rather than seeing a movie about Freddie himself, or even Queen. If I wanted to see that I'd just throw up Youtube instead.

But I'll leave it at that and let you enjoy the show.

Ah, I probably won't go and see it then.

I'm not a massive fan of Queen music (it was drilled in to my head as a child and frankly I'm sick of it) but was interested to see how the band came about and I've met brian may a couple of times who can be quite the conversationalist so thought it might have some good story telling.

Watched Mile 22, lots of action.

I highly recommend The Man from Earth

It's all dialog but the story line is phenomenal.

If you like things weird, check out Pistol Opera by the great japanese director Suzuki. I have no idea what it was about but I really didn't care. Beyond pleasurable to look at.

I've heard a lot of good things about that/ Everyone Is saying it's low budget sci fi done right, and liken it to a modern day Terminator (although not quite as good).

I think it also stars Logan Marshall-Green who happens to be in Jack's favorite film of all time, Prometheus, so it must be good

Saw Upgrade a while ago and can confirm - it's great.

I watched Serenity (2019).

I won't ruin it but ouch. What were they thinking.

endgame. first superhero film i've seen at the cinema since nolan's batman i think. massively disappointing given infinity wars' excellent setup. definitely better than the new star wars' 2 entries but fuck, that's a low bar.

The critics have been kind to it overall but there's virtually nothing that could get me to see one of those terrible product placement commercials pretending to be a movie.

The only slightly related thing I'll consider going to see is the new joker movie.

Searching was good and worth watching.

Really interested in this one..

Ive only seen one 'new' movie lately, and it was Take me to the River, which I have no idea why I got ahold of in the first place, I think maybe I was thinking of watching it with my ex, I dunno.
It was a mindf!ck and a half, though.. Weird thing is, I couldn't hear that the first line was "so we're not gonna tell them i'm gay" as I was more interested in the pizza in front of me, so I was wondering what the deal was, I thought maybe he was trans or something. SO I was real surprised when it went all super-incesty and cp'y. I mean go for it if you wanna see the youngest kid from Louie totally grind all up on an overtly pedo-y bathing scene at that there river, but if you think that might scar you for life, I'd say stay away - the story is really great, but I don't think most people could stomach it, and I guess most that do don't even get many of the layers of disturbing that is packed within the movie. A lot of things are all but flat-out said, and theyre only spreading the layer of hint real thick, so Ive seen reviews not even picking up on what I see as the major plot twist at the end, but I guess yeah, if there are anyone who might enjoy this movie, theyre likely a member here.

It's time for movie binge playas..so far on the watch list.

01. Annihilation
02. Prospect
03. High Life (Very Intrigued)
04. Ad Astra (not out yet)

Ad Astra was so shit. Absolutely no climax or story. Just waiting for something.
Interesting to happen and it never does

Midsommer is a heartwarming love story captured in the lushes fields of Sweden. Strangers are accepted as family and everyone is loved and cherished as one of their own. It will leave you with fuzzy feelings inside. Not to be missed:

Didn't want to watch a movie over 2 hours, so watches Nomis (Night Hunter). Good movie, but it could have been better, especially with such a talented cast. It did have an unexpected twist.

Alright we finally saw Joker and yes, it was very good. I was wrong, it didn't suck - and despite having a pretty good idea of what to expect going in, I found the whole take on not only The Joker, but Gotham and even the Bruce Wayne/Wayne family/Batman deal, quite refreshing. A few little tweaks/quirks of his behaviour made for a compelling character - man Joaquin nailed it, very impressed with how he made The Joker his own. Loved the parallels being drawn to Batman's first appearances in Gotham and how the city reacted. I'm not going to comment on the obvious social and political commentary, but I will say I did find some of the scenes very disturbing. Someone in another thread mentioned the score and I fully agree, so so excellent. AND the music.

I saw 1917 at the cinema tonight. I enjoyed it. It was tense, it was effective, it was emotional. The "continuous take" conceit sometimes stretched credibility in the transition between events and scenes, but it certainly made the film immersive. Good to start 2020 with a critically acclaimed film that wasn't utter bilge.

Definitely will pick this up on Blu-ray. I know it's not nearly the same as experiencing it in a proper cinema with a quality setup, but the older I get, the worse my social anxiety becomes. At this point, you couldn't pay me to get out of the house and into a cinema. But, with all that said, I am always up for a good war piece. I really need to make this my personal "the year of 4K" for my home cinema set up since so many catalog releases have made it to 4K UHD Blu-ray, finally. I'd love to see Patton in 4K UHD.
