some dubtechno

Posted by Raphie on Mar-12-2015 20:30:

Sounds good,I would try to mix a bit more dynamic/open if possible, it's allready plastered quite full, create a bit more air and contrast.
The break still sounds a bit dull, not going anywhere, that might work but then I would cut it in half, like a contrast and back to the beat.
the overall groove/feel is great.

Here's Clown finished, and I'm pretty pleased with the drop, I added more drive and did a proper break, wut do ya fink of the mix n stuff before I get this mastered?

Posted by Raphie on Mar-12-2015 20:32:

Nice bit darker 2step with up to date bass, sounds good.

cool track! I think the first "thats not funny" is too dry maybe the whole track could do with more reverb imo

the fx at 1:00 like a reverse vocal fx is really cool how did you do that?

im Listening on my laptop and headphones, but the bass sounds banging, the fx are really cool and keep it interesting. Pretty warped!

I feel like the track could do with a nice big 909 ride on the off beat personally to help it chug along, or a bit more hi hats/percussion but that may just be me.

Heres my WIP. The mix is still rough and bear in mind its going to have vocals so I've deliberately left space etc

Lovely soundscape, drums are sweet. Some of your synth stabs and hits are for me too loud and when they hit the grove is temporarily lost.

Epic sound there at 2.30. Kraftwerk sounding synths, great.
I like the first halve or so but I would say it starts too sound overly full as time goes on so it looses its vibe. In places go back to just a beat and maybe a little rhythmic addition to give contrast to the track.

Thanks for your feedback on mine I will address those points especially the break which I agree is dull.

Thanks for the feedback as ever, CLOWN is now finished and ready for mastering.

Tried to ensure impact throughout.

This is one of my favorite things I have heard from you. Really nice sound design, and several catchy elements to give it a full sound.

^ I'll agree with said sentiment, I have no real crits but enjoyed it and it sounded like you had a lot of fun.

Finished this one up:

^ Really nice track althought he mix/mastering and sound treatment is not being filled out to its full potential imo, it has some holes and dullness mix wise. Really great work though, probably one of the best posted here.

Posted by meriter on Mar-15-2015 05:19:

agreed really nice tune, low-end is great

i'm pretty useless for mixing advice cause my monitoring right now is a joke but I can hear what MSZ is talking about, probably worth getting this one stem mastered, also some tasteful vox would be huge

Very nice. It's reminding me of something from the 80s, but can't quite put my finger on it. The lead is spectacular.

I like. Definitely finish it.

And quit with the 'fags' thing, k?

This one has the 2nd drop and a lot of fit and finish done.

I've shortened this track by nearly 3 minutes, re-recorded every vocal, and did a bunch of work on the arrangement.

I assume you are sending your stuff to labels. If so most of them have to be simply not listening because I think these should be getting signed easy. I don't know how an A&R could look through your stuff and not see an artist with major potential.

I think this is worth developing. It needs more variation, but I like it so far. One thing that I noticed in the beginning before the other elements came in, is the bass may have a bit too much of the mid's cut. It isn't as noticeable later when elements take that space though.

Still loving this.

What synths are you using for the leads as they sound classy indeed?

Posted by Richard Butler on Mar-15-2015 20:46:

Any ideas on a style of break for this as I am getting nowhere?

no shit. I'm not a fan of male vocals but objectively this stuff is definitely marketable

Thanks! Yeah, I get an 80's vibe too. Maybe to lead synth from Europe - The Final Countdown:

Thanks. It is a free synth called synth1 and it is the default preset with some tweaks on the settings probably. I also put a ton of replika delay with the diffusion setting on it (and some background elements) so the breakdown is just a wall of sound. I actually have used it for several songs (with less delay) over the past few years. Something about it, I like using it for that last melody I want to put over top of everything.

Posted by meriter on Mar-15-2015 22:39:

is the subbass synth1? always hearing great things about that synth but i cant find a version that will run on this machine unfortunatley

The sub in the breakdown is a preset from Freshly Squeezed for Toxic Biohazard vst called bass - breakdown. The kind of deep house sub in the intro/outro and a few other parts is a deep tom from Nexus2.

Nice raphie, its raw but that adds to it, i think u do these live?

Only thing its missing is a nice big room style reverb on that bass stab, just to make it sound larger than life......imho

Detuned saws are beautiful, whats making them?

Thanks, guys. I haven't sent it to many. I've kind of got this whole go big, or go home mentality in my head. One of the labels that actually replied to me told me that they aren't club tracks so... idk. I need to not get disheartened immediately. And maybe lower my standards I guess.
