man, im loving that kick/toms combo, it just carries the groove - beautiful stuff man, little cheesy in places but thats ok..last break is lovely.. its mad watching a person's sound develop over time

p.s. those wide hats are badass

Started this yesterday and haven't been able to pull away from it.
This version however got thrown a curve when I impulsively decided to add vox. It was not my intention to do so at first and I am still debating. However, I received these late last night, threw em in and instantly raised an eye brow. It does add dimension to the track however, the main verse vox seems very dull and flat whereas the melody is strong and vibrant. Was hoping for more phrasing verses but only managed 3. Still need to do a timing adjustment as I know some phrases are a little bit off.
Arrangement was deemed originally a placeholder but I am actually digging sound choices.
Composition seems weird to me...??

Any tips on this you guys could draw up?

Nice and groovy start. Break is cool. Nice vibe with the pads. Back to groovin'. Cool deep stabs. Great listen overall. Mix is really cool, although I might prefer a bit more compression and the ducking effect that comes with it. And maybe a bit more eq ing to decrease overlap in certain sounds. I feel this mix could benefit a lot from a bit more space between elements (in the spectrum, possibly also timewise).

I like vocal. Definitely gives a new dimension. Intro is too long imo.

I cant really get into this one too much yet, the synths and vocals for me aren't working together, sorry

Thanks for the 'advices' you 3 guys, I will be working on the timing the mix, and I think stripping out the cheesey pads as it seems to be loosing grove when all that schit comes in.

So annoying I don't spot this shit when I'm in the fukin studio!!

Gordan - your latest track 'should I bother', well that's up to you, but I'm not really feeling it so far - BUT I was just listening to a techno set from Fusion Germany and I didn't feel any of the tracks I heard, yet the crowd seemed to like them, soo who knows..........in other words you finish your track if you are feelin it.

Storyteller - I'm gonna deliver a top notch deep house track if it damn well kills me - I am most annoyed not to have cracket the genre yet.

happens everyone, you just need to review the next day and also try not to watch the screen when mixing, I find closing my eyes really helps to find the proper levels

id really fucking love a proper tactile control surface so could have the screen off and just adjust levels

Mix sounds a bit too plastic and mid-forward but I guess that's always the case with commercial mixes

The left side of the stereofield seems a bit empty, everything seems to happen on the right side. For this kind of track the mix could a bit wider in general.

Finished-notfinished jam I made yesterday..-

Nice groove and sounds, but you could mix it up a bit, fade down the synths etc as its a bit static

It's quiet and has very loud hiss, not sure if that's an artistic statement tho

overall level is quite low? and the subbass, whilst nice, is just eating up too much of your headroom
nice vibe though!

Posted by Woony on Nov-19-2016 11:45:

Yeah you're right, the bass was a bit too much, I turned it down a bit. I had rendered at -10 for whatever reason so that's why it's a bit quiet probably.

My favorite project thus far, Sonic Academy Kick 2 is the shit.

most of your elements are shadowed by that kick xD

Hur. So today was the first time I went back to this track since I posted this sample, started adding some stuff to it, and... well, it sounds completely different now and not at all how it was intended to be. But I actually like it better this way.

No new sample yet, but this is probably the first time I've made changes to a track I'm working on based on the comments I got in this thread.

that happens me quite a bit, start a track with a certain idea in mind, work on it for ages, decide that I don't like it and transform it into something completely different which is invariably better than where I started

Thats got some funk to it Richard! Vocal chops could stand a little work and seem a little crispy. Other than that..dig it! Got a hard juke to it.

-------------------------------------------------

Started this last night, it's a very early hard wip. Still working the composition but liking the arrangement
(I think I have been listening to to much Eric Prydz)

have to say, the build up is epic - when it drops it slightly underwhelming for me, i think the kick could be a bit more punchier

just watch all your all mid-range stuff, youve got a lot of sounds there together but i love the melodies and the bass, if you improve the kick and tidy up the mix this could be really good, well done!

Should I lower the volume or use a transient design on the kick, i'm lost.

I added some BT like FM Buzz Sound with Lfo automation.
