Say you have a group of 6 girls, 3 are drinking $3 bottles of beer or well drinks, 3 are drinking $8 martini's...splitting rounds does not favor the beer drinkers, and usually with guys you have all beer drinkers or they drink wells which usually are a little closer in price. When my friends and I go out we just start a tab at the bar with one credit card and throw all the drinks on there and split it at the end, makes it easier than starting 5 tabs, and definitely a lot easier than paying drink by drink.

i buy rounds not to get something equal value back in return.
i buy rounds because i want to buy one for my friends

translation: yohan likes drink with umbrellas in them even if it is not raining.

Because, everyone drinks different amounts.

One drink, and I'm toasted.

I'm a cheap drunk!

So I'm not going to buy rounds of drinks, and spend an ass load of money, when it only costs me $7 to go out that night.

If I'm at a bar with a couple of friends, we start with giving someone an x amount of euros each and he'll get every round, with sometimes giving it to one of us who'll take his turn. Usually halfway the night, we'll have to spend another x amount. This works because everyone drinks the same (beer) and quite a lot too. And we're nearly always close to the bar so you don't have to cross the club with like 10 beer.

At several clubs you'll have to get tokens so everyone will get his own and then when someone's going for a drink, he'll open his hand so you can drop a token in it and say what you want to drink. Here everyone will take his turn. This works cause nights like these I'm with my 'EDM-friends' and this group never gets too big, in other words you can still carry the drinks with 2 hands. And we don't drink that much on such nights.

you're clearly missing the point of why buy a round for your friends

jesus. is it me, or people are getting extremely cheap nowadays?

Posted by elFreak on Nov-19-2008 19:32:

i like to start with "because of these troubled financial times" before i tell someone i don't like them enough to buy them a drink. People are not cheap "these days"...they just throw away the money on women they can't get instead. If you see a friend doing this with a woman go up to him and loudly say it is his round. This will work 20 times in a row because he does not want to look cheap in front of the girl he won't get. You win, and get to laugh at him more when you are drunk.

They are, and that's the problem. I'd just as soon pay for a great drink for a great friend, but any sort of social drinking scenario sets me up to pay for people who aren't paying or are drinking too much or whatever - it's just so flawed to expect some vestige of equal responsibility when it comes to the second-hand crowd that tends to tag along with my rare excursions.

i laugh at my friends who try to pick up at bars

i am a great friend

seriously try this tactic then yohan...not only does it work often, but when it doesn't you can blurt out stuff like they have genital warts and ruin the "pussy" for them and laugh anyways! It isn't like they were going to get them anyway, and you just saved them money.

95% of the time I go out, its not for a birthday, or a celebration of any sort, its just because my friends and I like to go out, so on our normal bar nights (tuesday, thursday, friday, saturday) we just want to pay our own way. Is it that hard for you to comprehend some people like to just pay for themselves? If I were to buy rounds for everyone and not get something in return, 4 nights a week, I'd be broke. When its someones birthday or they just got a promotion or something, then yeah, I'll buy them a drink or two, but when its just a regular night out, we just pay for our own drinks. Why is that so bad?

i'm talking about people cheaping out on buying even occassional rounds

or expecting to get a round back if they do buy a round

normally i pay for my own drinks too. but i have no qualms buying occassional 50 bucks, or even 100 bucks round because i want to treat my friends
