I read a similar interview recently too, maybe it is this one (had to look around a bit to find it myself)?

Yes! Nice work.

Unfortunately Sasha told Hit last year it was over for good: I dont really have anything nice to say about John any more so Id probably rather not say anything.

This is a surprise to Digweed. I didnt know we had fallen out, is that we he said? he asks. Nah, Ive never said well never play together again. For us or for me personally it was like we need a break, weve been playing together over 17 years so theres definitely no bad feeling my end.

I don't think it's unreasonable to speculate that this has more to do with Sasha's falling out with Digweed rather than some kind of mutual rift. Sasha's been a notoriously high maintenance diva since at least Delta Heavy, whereas Digweed by many accounts is as every bit as laid back as his mid 2000's beach-bum haircut would suggest, and you can even sense that in the interview- Sasha takes a passive aggressive jab at Digweed, Digweed basically replies with 'huh?', and moves right along with his life.

personally i don't normally listen to the songs john plays but when he DJs it sounds pretty good to me. i think the worst I've seen him was 7.5/10.

from my encounters seeing sasha he's been good about half the time, and maybe the best I've seen him live id give an 8-9/10.

some of that elitist techno scene stuff is rubbing down to other sub-genres, where the label or artist has to be uncommon and vinyl only or complete trash. IMO john deserves his popularity and ill continue to see him DJ as he's yet to disappoint (although I've focussed mostly on techno for the past few years).

side note: ill never understand ricardo villalobos... the onetime i went to see him he was too fucked up to beat match and mix, and too fucked up to realize it. fool was dancing by himself behind the decks when half the people stopped dancing and started shouting at him LOL. i hear sasha gets pretty fucked up on occasion still too

I can't thank them enough for how much they have brought me in the world of electronic music. I still from time to time listen to their older compilations, mixes and what not.

I have nothing against them personally or anything like that but their music choices has been out of touch for at least a decade.

I understand that people have their likes and dislikes, but I just can't wrap my head around statements like this... I can't speak for places elsewhere in the world outside of the Miami/Orlando/Tampa scene, but Digweed absolutely packs the house for his WMC shows. His show at Treehouse last March was sold out within a week or so. I could count the amount of non-"EDM" shows using my ten fingers that actually sold out -- and his show was probably the first. Also: his WMC boat cruise sells out and is RSVP only -- at $200 a ticket. So yeah, there might be a tiny audience for him and the music that he spins.

In all honesty, his style isn't too unlike the Innervisions stuff. But he's a more well-rounded DJ and is more prone to play "outside the box" than even guys like Dixon. Deeper repertoire. In my opinion, statements like yours are usually made by people whom have biased preconceptions of a DJ and their music. Usually easier to write off than it is actually objectively listen to the music...

Of course if you flat out don't like the sound, fine, but c'mon don't dismiss it because it's not your cup of tea.

If anything, most of his high-maintenance behaviour came well before Delta Heavy. By that point he was taking his career pretty seriously, and in the Delta Heavy DVD he talks about he had to sign a hefty no-appearance clause in his contract due to his past reputation. In the '90s, going right back to the start of his career, he was absolutely infamous for missing gigs. The very first time he was supposed to play with Digweed was at a night Diggers was promoting - and he never showed up. In 1993 a fan wrote depairingly into Mixmag with a letter that simply said "Sasha, why do you never turn up?" When they were interviewed by Muzik Magazine in 1996 during the Northern Exposure tour, the whole article was about how Sasha almost missed the gig, even when journalists were documenting the whole thing. It goes on and on and on. He used to miss gigs claiming he was locked in the studio working on his mythical debut album, which only increased the pressure when Airdrawndagger didn't appear year after year.

Most of it was down to getting far too fucked up in clubs or in the inevitable after-parties, whereas Digweed isn't known for taking drugs. Sasha said of his fall-out with Renaissance promoter Geoff Oakes, "I last a couple of years with people then it all goes wrong". Given what John Digweed patiently tolerated for a decade or more, it's something of a miracle this has never happened earlier.

If you look through dj christian's post history you can go back literally three years without finding a single post where he has anything positive to say about any contemporary music. It probably goes much further, I just bored of looking. The guy is the absolute epitome of the jaded TranceAddict wanker who turns up entirely to complain about how shit music is.

Was that back when Digweed basically brought him into The Hacienda? I had no doubt that this reputation preceded him well before Delta Heavy, but the DVD admission was just a convenient way to timestamp it, and is still to say nothing of his contractual violations of the tour, like playing out on nights that were outside of the agreement.

Er... no. John Digweed had no association with Hacienda to my knowledge. He was promoting his own nights in Hastings, which is about 300 miles away from Manchester. Sasha was playing Hacienda in 1988 when he lived next door to Jon Da Silva. If anything, Sasha brought Digweed to Renaissance in 1992/3, which was the beginning of Diggers' rise to prominence.

That story is hilarious.

Ive heard similar stories about what you recalled. He has a nickname , "ibiza bad boy" for a reason. Ive never seen him perform but when i think about it, i wonder if it is something like Troxler tanked and full 'tard' behind the decks that infamous video .

But , supposedly when he not wacked out of his mind, he is really something special.

Seth Troxler actually cares about the crowd he's playing in front of. Ricardo is the quintessential douchebag. His fandom consists almost entirely of douchey hipster types. Match made in heaven. Saw Ricardo play at DEMF in 2011 and he -- I swear -- purposely played boring bullshit meandering tech house his entire set. It went nowhere. It was raining and he had an early evening slot on the main stage. People were cramming in the rain (all the other stages had some sort of cover) to catch him for a rare set in the U.S. and he laid a giant turd. Fuck that guy. Heard similar stories about other gigs he's played too. In fact, saw him for about 20 minutes halfway through his set at Into the Valley in Sweden last August and it was the same sort of crap. Went to the smaller stage to catch Aril Brikha who was just killing it. Best decision of the weekend.

First i must say I'm sorry for the rant! I was a bit over the top.

But thanks for the head up! I haven't been following either Digweed nor Sasha for the past 6-7 years or so. But it seems there's still a big audience for them especially in the states and that's good for them and i wish them all the luck! They have brought so many good things in the past for me personally.

It's just last time i listened to their sets and mixes were so boring at least the latter Transitions mixes from Digweed. I don't go to their 8hr long sets on yatchs like some other people here have been. If you guys some tip me on some real good recently made mixes by them i will happily listen to them and change my opinion. In the end i think it's more that I've just changed taste in music.

Surprise appearance by Sasha at Bedrock @ MoS last nite and they did indeed play together.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Mar-25-2016 16:51:

Yeah, Facebook is going nuts over it. People speculating that they might tour together again now Renaissance has come back under the control of Geoff Oakes.

Posted by enydo on Mar-25-2016 16:59:

well, even if I don't pay attention to anything they're doing currently I'd have to go see them if they toured again. :P

The sets I saw them play back when they were last in GA and also the last Miami Sunset Cruise they did together were actually pretty great.

Wonder if those 2 guys could still sell out stadiums in the this day and age ?

Minimal lighting. Head-down prog groove. DJs but a silhouette in the booth. Are we sure this vid isn't from fifteen years ago?

I approve.

Posted by Kilixpree on Mar-26-2016 09:29:

wtf no one taking pictures

impressive, really.

Posted by Lews on Mar-26-2016 09:56:

They were playing together 5 minutes walk from my flat while I was asleep. Damn

I'd definitely go see them if they toured together.

Posted by Godking5 on Mar-26-2016 16:22:

The sasha - digweed duo at its prime was before my time. I wasnt even a teenager yet. so i would be thrilled at the prospect to see them perform together. Very cool news indeed
