Originally posted by chris marsh ive always shyed away from doing much on the master, typically mastering engineers have said "give it to me without the limiter on the master bus" but... recently ive decided that i want to have a proper go at drum and bass, and the truth is a lot of, if not most, of the big guys in DNB mix into a limiter (or two) doing a quite a lot |

Originally posted by Woony If you want SUPER DUPER loud mixes you probably need to mix into a limiter, I wouldn't personally do it though - IMO a lot of modern Dnb is waay too loud and dense, I much prefer the older stuff that still has dynamics. Keep in mind though that saturation also increases the perceived loudness since it rolls of transients and adds harmonic density. Try demoing Brainworx Saturator v2. If you leave it on the first drive stage and crank the saturation, the amount of perceived loudness you can add without an increasing in peak volume or audible distortion is actually mind boggling (and no compression!). Latest one from me - maybe I should upload a version with a clean master bus, it would sound like total crap ![]() |
1 more from me - went big on this one so mix may be out of balance as it stands

MAC Literally every WIP of yours I cannot play, do you remove them quickly or is something wrong my end?

Getting back to DnB
A track themed on A I becoming conscious. A mix of hardish DnB and melodic break
Smatterings of Roland JD XA and my new Eventide Space reverb unit
Was hoping to add my new Pittsburgh Lifeforms Blackbox but not got the right audio cable for it yet, grr
Should I add some creepy words to this track?

Trying to finish these two tracks, i've even brought some real monitors in my work room though acoustic is not great. How is mixing?

Originally posted by TranceLover007 Hi Gordan, This my sound as unconventional comment but I decided to go this route because I think it is important for you to know where I cam from and what I'm looking for in music I really like to listen to. First of all I really have to have good day (inspiration vise) to go to my mini studio and work on something new, something which let me express my self, my feelings, my emotions and I usually start with little tool call Cthulhu from XferRecords which help me quickly go through different chords sequence for best possible melodic part. After that I work around bass and drums and really paying attention to balance and levels with good harmonics as this is the glue to your track structure which translate to best possible listening experience. At this point I should switch to your track and try to give you my best and honest suggestion/opinion which some times is not that easy as you may have a bit different expectations then I do from music, so I will start with this: so far I can't feel/hear overall coherent theme in your WIP, the thing which make track attractive and let different elements/sounds do/play their part in it (if you know what I mean), also it is important to recognize that in today music not only melody with cool drops and rises is enough but also FX and sounds selection play huge role in success of the track - and this is the element whci is also missing in this production concept. Overall I can definitively say the you are making progress in developing your production skills and it is just a matter of time you get the "ONE" track which may change direction of your life ![]() Cheers man, Darek |

Originally posted by Woony Cheers guys! Get Klanghelm MJUC, thousands of dollars worth of vintage tube compression for 23 euros ![]() |

Originally posted by Richard Butler I have his products including this one already but this one in particular makes my PC crash or I periodically get 'VST Bridge lost' whereby any instances of Klanghelm reset themselves and I have to adjust them all to taste once more. I will give this unit another go given your enthusiasm! |
Will check that Chris ta
Here's a WIPish test of my new Pittsburgh SV1 Lifeforms synth. Its the bass I've been missing I think.
Interested to know if any of these phrases and sounds grab your attention
