Originally posted by szm really like that techno fart for the most part, I wouldn't even call it techno, more like good quality trance. when the saws come in it gets quite busy, so after that im not in. maybe more of a short release short decay staccato thingy might work better or a stubby pluck, i dunno. and to explain, I was using ableton for a few months and yes I was unhappy I couldn't bend the sounds like I did in reason, what you heard were experiments in sound and failed ones, not really track attempts, but trying to get a knack for sound design/mixing. im currently daw-less, hope to pick up reason again in the holiday maybe. and yes I do need work on my track making skills, micro transitions, builds, things like that for sure, taking the lazy route most of the time, which I do hope to progress at some point. its not a priority right now. I downloaded a demo of reason the other night, and I am happy with how I bend sound over there. too bad I cant export, re-open saves atm. I could capture my screen with obs, so there is that. this is a lot closer to the sound im aiming for. |
thanks for the feedback darius, I would love to create something cool one day :}
after playing it back a day or so later, yea its definitely lacking dynamics and a finished sound, kick and bass verry iffy! I've already started working on something that sounds much better I think.
How is this dynamics? - working on a new track and trying a few different things splice in it, let me know if you have time.
hey darius, sorry I cant help beyond my "skills" to do so. everything sounds clear to me with good balance. I really like the ideas on the second clip.

Originally posted by SystematicX1 That intro has a very ethereal tone and I could listen to that looped all day. The miramba undertone is nice however it starts changing the vibe. And it starts taking on this island feel, which is still nice and very enjoyable however... When the guitar piece comes in, it changes to something completely and I get more of a feel like its more of a "bed" track for some guy using it on a loop while playing guitar in the city streets...lol imo if you kept that progressive house feel to it, it is a very head bouncing track. ................... Been kinda on a roll lately. All over the board genre wise (naturally) but getting some good ideas down and trying to ride that wave *note -Those cymbal flams will be removed |

Could use some help on this one from you guys.
So, this issue surrounds the low frequencies and I shall explain.
There are basically two lines of sub that are separated by an octave.
The first line is the higher octave in which I am using a saw that blended well with the mix however,at the 2:00 mark I attempted to pitch down an octave and it went to shit and it distorted all over the board.
So, I went with another sub on it and I am getting some distortion, or at least on my transition points where it is peaking. When attempting to EQ, it seems like it dulls out the lower sub and doesn't match up and almost seems to lose power
Any suggestions? Another Sub? lol
Also, not sure about my lead (still not sure about the tone) but is it dragging?

Originally posted by SystematicX1 ***Revised** Ok, so I kept the older bounce in order to see the difference. I "think" I have chosen a better remedy on the new bounce. I found one mistake in the fact that my EQ was off for whatever reason on my percussion.However, now I am seeing a lot more peaks and valley's on the waveform when it got turned on Secondly, I ended up ducking both subs which helped bring out that kick. With that said however, I am getting some clipping. Not to say that I am religious on being a "meter" guy and generally try to trust and rely on my ears,but I try to at least follow some sort of guide using a meter and I am getting some red. But, the strength returned. I need to test this out on my other two references to make sure |
Currently working on few releases at the same time and would like to share one of those tracks with you:
sounds great, me likey bass!
only thing I can detect is that you need a meatier snare / clap with more body because it making your percussion sound paper-thin.
nvm weak attempt.

Originally posted by Storyteller Sounds solid with the intro. Bass is too loud on my headphones. I would go for a different sound & pattern with the bassline I think. The piano melody @ 1 minute mark feels a bit farfetched and the sound doesn't appeal to me too much. All the other sounds are enchanting. 2min mark when it comes together you lost me. Doesn't happen too often with your clips I must say. I've been at it too. The first three clips are new. I need to start finishing some stuff. Will happen again one day. 1st is the first where I feature my own voice (heavily edited surely), even if only spoken. I need to think of more lines ![]() 2nd is an attempt to play with vocoder and voice of my son 3rd is just dnb-ish noise ![]() |

Thanks for the feedback guys! Very helpful. Now only if I can make some time to make more progress......
@SystematicX1
Liking the arp. The piano feels rather artificial. Could be helpful to introduce slight timing differences and velocity to make it seem more natural. The last piano chord in the pattern feels like a miss, offkey.
At the 2 minute mark I'm waiting for a strong lead. There's a bunch of arps and plucky stuff of which the last two chord progressions feel rather uncomfortable to my ear... And, oooh there it is at 2:30! The lead. That part I like.
Hope this helps!
3rd track is the most interesting to my ears, maybe the drums are sitting out a tad too much? but nice track

OK to stimulate this thread a bit I will share my latest WIP. Still some work will be needed on this drums and some FX but overall flavor is there already:

Originally posted by TranceLover007 Sorry for sooooo late comment lol - In my honest opinion, I would very a bit of melodic development by adding some interesting sounds /instrument to it and I would really try to cut at least one of those arps for more space in eq. Some orchestral elements are really nice addition to this track which definitely needs some of those moments. Cheers, Darek |
