It does need something to differentiate it from other tracks, i wish knew what

edit: updated with better sidechain & little fixes.

The main synth is really in your face, all the time. It's very exhausting to listen to it. If it were a track of mine i'd choose a different sound, or EQ it better to give the rest some space, or create more break parts.

playing with my new Nord 4R, the Bass you hear is the Voyager which is on sale here (FFS learn how to use that thing man! you'll never get that dense bass out of Massive )

its a bit harsh in the midrange, that lead is taking up a lot of space, kinda dominates too much i think

In the meantime here's a lil techno dubby thing - nothing out the ordinary but the kinda groove I like myself.

The main arpy synth is a patch I made in my Roland Fantom, and recorded in live as I twiddled it's knobs.

i really liked this but i was waiting for the kick to just slam in but it never happened?? you must have a big cut on the kick or else a really short decay?? maybe it just me but thats the way im hearing it :-/

Yeah that fucking supersaw, its powerful but it always takes the entire frequency spectrum.

didn't know it was u, already commentee on SF, great track, bit Deadmau5'ish

I like the vibe, but it needs a lot more energy distribution throughout the track, otherwise it gets repetitive

voyager sounds quality as always, it has such a nice saw wave bass
- jealous of the Nord 4R, i think u need a bit of delay on those stabs to get some rhythm going in tandem with bassline.......

Nodding along to this one, nicely done.

Raphie, really digging the purity of your lil track there, very atmospheric for me.
Lovely synths and sound.

I like the open feel to the mix prior to that big nasty lead and then the super saw coming in.

So believe it or not I've almost finished constructing my latest DnB. Now seeking a male vocalist for it.

Some of my chops need re-doing.

Posted by MSZ on Sep-29-2013 22:16:

Awesome stuff Richard, excuse me I dont feel like trying to nitpick.

I have offered to pay 100 quid and got about 80 replies - of which 10 i thought were excellent

you can however pay nothing and your still get loads of offers im sure

I like at 1:46 when it sounds like the same beat repeats several times. Good track.

I'd give vocals a try but don't have a good mic set up to record on right now. One critique, at least in my headphones the is white noise, crash or part of a synth or something, way up in the hi's that plays throughout that I would consider removing or tweaking.

Start submitting to UKF or something. Your stuff needs to be getting played out.

Strong track, now... Listen to the rudimental album in order to get your mix and sound design polished. It's a very catchy anthem, but now needs to be made a bit more accesible, if you know what i mean.

MSZ - thx, but always feel free to nitpick - I think of the process a bit like getting a sports coach to round off my rough edges.

Chris - yes I am checking that out but after I've tried a couple of people local to me. Thx for your enthusiasm now and prior.

Loverman - thx - I tried doing the vocal many times but am now seeking a singer - one local guy I think would be good but I have not contacted him yet until the track sounds right. I think the hi you've spotted is me adding too much treble to the synths - I need a clean ear session on this. Feel free to have a go though if you think you might come up with a good vocal performance. The words I have are about someone not wanting to back down, not wakin by, taking up the challenge - it's a narrative that could apply to a lot of situations.

Raphie - do you have a particular track or two in mind as this will help me keep focused? I don't have a great pallet of synths so I'm not sure I will be able to deliver better sounds (the bad sound designer always blames his tools eh) but I deffo want this input you've given me as I cannot see the wood for the tree's / I'm too close to the track to be able to step back and make better decisions. Rudimental use a lot of real instruments I think?

Mix wise I will deffo need advice on.

really cool track Richard, really like the vibe, sounds uplifting to me.

On the production side, theres some sort of harshness/distortion in the highs, sounds like its over the whole mix but not sure, probably just me hearing it

hot off the press, bpm should be higher maybe??

Awesome. Great atmosphere and sound design. I think the BPM is fine. This track would be great to open a mix CD.

I decided to have some fun and do a bootleg of a classic--if a bit more on the commercial euro-trance side--track. Decided to change it up quite a bit and take it in a deep 120 BPM direction. I just reconstructed the notes by ear. I don't want to over-complicate this one. Just want it to be a departure from the original, while keeping the lead melody/bass nearly the same, as I think is best with classic songs. Feedback is appreciate and I would be interested to hear if anyone knows the original
