Your argument is completely based around subjectivity. Different people value different things more than others. Just because you think it's stupid doesn't mean it is stupid.

There are actually realistic designs for undersea tunnels. They would not be traditional rail tunnels, but vacuum tunnels. Imagine a super sized version of the little things at drive up banks. The trains would reach speeds of thousands of km/h.

Also, yea, I don't fly that much, if I have to travel or want to travel someplace in the US I try and take a train, because its nicer, cheaper, and a more interesting trip. If I want to make traveling part of the experience of my over all trip then the train is the best way.
