Holy mother of FUCK danny.. face melting indeed. incredible ! there were some odd songs with long build ups or no kick but those gave me much needed rest. i couldn't last a minute longer, left at 7. as soon as i got in the cab i started waking up. how the hell does one last without drugs ? kinda regret not doing cuz he was fire the whole night. crowd was kinda crap. i asked a kid whats up with the face masks. its a style / trend they said. bunch of fools taking selfies left right and centre. after 5 there was more space to dance. goodbye guv ! thank you danny !

wow!! what a night/morning! Danny started by saying on the mic that we were going to make Montreal jealous lol. This turned out to not be the case.

His set was like any proper marathon set - a rolloercoaster ride of styles. Overall I found the set to be really good but as Stefan put it "not mind blowing". There was LOTS of great tracks, some good tracks and some not good tracks. He only played a handful of great tribal tracks and they were all spread out. He kept teasing me

Here's a list of the few songs I recognized.

-Daft Punk - Alive
-Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence (Remix)
-Tori Amos - Professional Widow (Armand Van Helden Remix)
-Depeche Mode - Behind the Wheel (Remix?)
-Peruz, Frank Nastri - Voices in my Head
-Michael Jackson - Thriller (Acapella)
-Underworld - Two Months Off (Remix?)
-Kings of Tomorrow - Finally (Danny's Return to Paradise Mix) - Danny announced this as the last track, the same last track he played at Vinyl in New York when it closed. Of course he ended up playing a few after
-George Harrison - My Sweet Lord <-- This was a beautiful 2nd last track. From here on in I'll always associate this song with the closing of guv and it will represent my 9 years there *sap*

I decided to come out of my videography retirement to capture what will me one of the most memorable guv moments ever for me. Catch Danny on the mic at 6:48ish. Pardon the cell phone qual!

Danny taking pictures during his final track. I left when the music stopped at around 10:20am. A new personal high score! haha

I closed it out 100% sober. Booze will only work against you for the long haul (they're a depressant). I had a disco nap and a monster energy drink before arriving at 2am. I had a redbull at 6am and then a sugarfree one at 8am. Drinking lots of water helps too. I ended up outlasting almost all my friends that indulged by a couple of hours lol.

Many have mentioned that his set at Ryze was better (and almost twice as long). I'm inclined to agree although I only caught 5 of the 13 or 14 hours he did there. After a 5 year absense, this is Danny's 2nd time here in 6 months. I hope it continues!

I can't believe that was my last night in Guv main room (I'm doing the last gallery party next weekend). I know I'm no veteran compared to some of you guys but going there for 9 years was such a massive part of my clubbing life. I met almost all of my best friends there and have countless memories on that dancefloor as well as all the other rooms. It was certainly the club that introduced me to the scene and that carried on for many years after. Aside from that, this is a club that helped put Toronto on the map 18 years ago, ranking in the top 10 across the world, was the largest night club in North American and longest running in Canada. A huge era in Toronto night life is over. A few of my friends had some real genuine moments there with tears but I never got that far. Watching the video gives me chills, though.

So long, Guv. I"m looking forward to seeing your incarnation in a couple years -- the new club that is built, not the condos that replace it

I stayed until 6'ish, and I thought he was playing pretty well. He got a bit more techno-y after 5'ish but had this really good tech house, lighter techno vibe beforehand. I was expecting him to vary it up more but no matter as it was still good. He also played another Depeche Mode track, It's No Good. It was some remix and it served as a mini peak of sorts at the time he played it. I thought that was a great moment as I've become a bigger fan of Depeche Mode's stuff in the past couple of years.

I wish I had stayed longer, I mean that was probably my last time there. But I was getting tired (poor excuse). Overall, I thought it was solid and better than Digweed's set in October, this guy truly knows how to keep you interested in his long sets..he would just drop the bass in certain tracks or just keep like this suspenseful techno vibe going where you didn't where the set was going to take you. I really like how good DJs do that.

About the smoking thing, they didn't confiscate my smokes and after like 3-4ish ppl went outside to have smokes on the patio anyway. Gonna miss the Guv. I'm considering going to the AVB party but it's a stretch for me at this point. Cover was $50 at the door if anyone's wondering.

EDIT: Kotsy, that George Harrison track was really nice. What a great set. There were still quite a few folks left when I was leaving. I agree too about Guv being part of my clubbing history. It was the first real club I went to check out the DJs in the scene I was discovering. I know the whole underground EDM scene is shifting to these mid size clubs, but you can't deny the power of real underground music at a big place like Guv, especially in the early days when all the guys we'd follow would play there.

@kotsy, never thought of energy drinks in all my years lol.
alan fitzpatrick- turn down the lights. only track that i could ID. what he was playing towards the end was right up my alley. i missed his ryze set due to having tickets for electric island... (innervisions fail) yet to forgive my self for that.

@nobbie- yea i tend to agree i had more fun and preferred the music to danny over diggers and deep dish

+1

I really wish Danny T played Guv more often. I have seen him at Stereo, Maison, Ryze and this was my second time seeing him at Guv and I personally feel his sound is a lot more suited for a venue like Guv. I was considering sitting this one out. Glad I ended up going instead! Than you Guv for the countless good nights I've spent dancing my heart out and for all the party people I've met there over the years.

Been a while since I've heard Hatiras - Spaced Invader in a club. What an insane track. Danny was great. Couldn't have asked for a better way to say goodbye to my favorite club. Knew it was going to be special when I set foot in Guv back in 2002. On Sunday I walked outta there with countless memories of fun times and good friends. Doesn't get much better than that.

Surprised there aren't more reviews of this night. Did you guys catch how Danny Tenaglia was sampling Chiapet- Westworld (Skylark Remix) in the beginning of his set over a few tracks? I thought that was a nice touch.

I doubt he recorded this but this is one of the sets I'd like to hear again. Reminded me of Sven Vath a bit from EI last year. I love this suspense driven tech stuff where you get locked into this zone. The Guv was still surprisingly still sorta busy around 6 AM too, when usually a lot of heads leave.

Kind of a sad photo knowing the place wont be there much longer. I'm sure 30 days from now it might even be an empty lot.

Wish I could've popped into town for one of the last events but won't be able to. Hope everyone enjoys the last hurrahs.

nice. I forgot about that track. He didn't play the skylark remix, though. The "woosh woosh" sound he sampled is in the original too.
