Hey guys . Before I ask my questions, I just wanna say that if the questions have been answered already, I apologize for having to repeat them... it's just trying to search through this thread is becoming harder by the post it seems.

Anyhow, I have just booked my flight to Amsterdam (from Toronto)for July. I haven't made any hostel arrangements online, so this is why I find myself asking this. Would I have any trouble finding cheap hostels in or around...

-Rotterdam
-The Hague
-Utrecht
-Scheveningen
-Breda (possibly)

It is really hard to find hostel info online for these cities, so if anyone could kindly suggest where I could find out hostel information online, it would greatly be appreciated. And 1 more thing.... if I don't book online or in advance, would I have any problem finding hostels in July/August or are they extremely packed?

Thanks in advance guys, anything you can tell me is great.

seems like a decent campground.. dunno where defqon is exactly at, though. The ANWB (dutch ADAC) used to publish books on campgrounds (both NL and EU). try their site www.ANWB.nl use their search engine.

camping guide (NL)

this is what u look for i think. in dutch though.

hey all, im planning on visiting amsterdam on june 29th 2006. ive been looking at some hotels, just wondering if anyone can tell me about the Golden Tulip amsterdam centre. ive read some good review on tripadvisor just wanted some other input...

thanks,

Jerry

Posted by Unique2701 on Mar-28-2006 15:34:

uhm the hotel looks good, located in the centre of amsterdam, near the station and the Dam-square, takes about 10minutes using the tram to get to Leidse-square (=square with lotsa cafe's, bars & restaurants around it) and 5 minutes from the Leidse-square you can find the National Museum and the Vincent van Gogh museum. Coffeeshops are easy to find also near the hotel as well as near the Leidse-square.

you can take the tram 1/2/5/6, there's a stop 2 minutes from the Dam square, only problem is it's kinda a mess there since they are working on the road there. But you can ask people, i'm sure you'll find someone who knows..

i presume u mean trance festivals? through europe? for 60 days?

there should be 100's.....and what do you mean w/ europe? latvia included? lithouania?

it's like me asking: "what are good clubs to go to in USA?"

stereotyping americans

Posted by Frenkieee on Apr-01-2006 15:52:

Posted by jp on Apr-01-2006 17:38:

De Zwitserse taal (Schwytzerdtsch) en het Nederlands lijken behoorlijk op elkaar. Ook is er buitengewoon veel handel/investeringen tussen de beide landen. Daarnaast vechten we beiden tegen de natuur en hebben Zwitserland en Nederland ongeveer het zelfde drugsbeleid

Posted by Frenkieee on Apr-02-2006 14:59:

Het ging er me meer om dat die verkoper elke Europeaan hetzelfde ziet. 't is nou niet zo dat elke Nederlander en Zwitser op elkaar lijken.

En het kan ook een Oostenrijker geweest zijn. Het was nou niet zo spannend dat het voor altijd in mn geheugen is gegrift

University of Amsterdam

Hi there,

I currently study in Sydney Australia at University of New South Wales. My degree is Bachelor of International Studies. As part of my degree, it is essential that i venture into a foreign university for two semester (12 months) in order to graduate.

For those who went to University of Amsterdam or know the environment, can you please answer these questions?

1. How far is it from University of Amsterdam to the centre of city? Can it be readily accessible by public transport? Can a foreign student who knows English well can easily move around with little difficulty?

2. Is University of Amsterdam well known for it's field in "International Relations & Politics?". Those two field are my core majors and it is important for me to go to university which has high accreditation.

3. How expensive is the cost of living there? How much is public transportation and accomidation?

Posted by ZZandirt on Apr-05-2006 11:37:

1: the different faculties have different locations. all are within walking distance of Public Tr/p
1a: no probs for foreigners as long as they speak english.

2: dunno. personally i feel that the yield of (post-)graduates has less and less quality these days. but that's personal. internationally speaking, holland is high ranked for some (!) (university-) studies.

3:finding accomodation in amsterdam is hell for most people. public tr/p is fairly cheap for students, they all get a "travel free as much as you like"-card. but i don't know if it appplies to foreign students. you should check whether the univerity can help you out. i know of a hotel which houses exchange-students from october through june. (it's only a hotel in the other months)

good luck
