Wow, that place makes even Nagoya look good

Walking around Kokura at night in a light drizzle reminded me of Blade Runner haha. So much neon in these little back streets and so much noise. It even convinced me to buy another nice field recorder and get some field recordings while walking around... Too bad I was too sick to remember to do it most of the time.

Even in smaller cities Japan just feels far more alive during the night. If NYC is the city that never sleeps, Japan is the country that never seems to sleep.

The whole place is like a cyberpunk colony from the future. I can't remember how many times I caught myself listening to drum'n'bass on the streets and hoping my veins would start to glow in the dark and have my vocoder instead of my larynx <3

Yea I had read Nueromancer about 2 months before I headed over there...

I totally wish I hadn't gotten the worst cold I have ever had while over there, because I am sure I would have enjoyed it 1000x more, and thats saying a lot because the cold really did nothing to prevent me from going out and doing stuff. I only spent one afternoon in the hotel when my brother had to go do school stuff for the day.

A friend of mine traveled the whole country from Tokyo to Kagoshima to Sapporo (and back to Tokyo) by local train this summer... I might try that sometime soon, it sounds fun.

I can tell you it's exhausting: The first time I went to Japan I went from Hiroshima to Sendai in a couple of weeks (Nagoya → Otsu → Osaka → Kyoto → Kobe → Hiroshima → Yokohama → Tokyo → Sendai → Nagano → Nagoya), and the second time I was going to go further north, but because of the earthquake, it was much more erratic (Nagoya → Nagano → Nagoya → Kanazawa → Nara → Osaka → Nagashima → Yokohama → Tokyo → Nagoya). The second trip was a bit of a waste, tourism wise, because we were shackled by Kaoru's graduation and subsequent trip back to Brazil.

These trips helped me understand I hate travelling (as in doing sight-seeing and doing bugger all other than just walk around the city), and I liked my second trip much better because, since I stayed in Nagoya for a while, I felt what it is like to live in a different country. Kaoru was surprised by how well I fit there once I found out how to ride the metro and go from "our apartment" to the bookshops in Sakae

Yea I think it'd be really fun to live there. Everything is very easily accessible without a car, which I like.

My brother always amazed new people he met when we were with him because he spoke fluently (with an Osaka/Kansai dialect no less) and pretty much knew all of Osaka and Kobe like the back of his hand (as well as Kitakyushu and Fukuoka).

He still sucked as a tour guide though, haha. He'd just be like "uhh I don't know what you guys wanna do..." Unless it was going to a bar he pretty much didn't know what to show foreigners.

Ever heard of Wikitravel? It's awesome because you can find loads of things not even the locals know. A friend of mine offered to guide me in Osaka but I ended up showing her the city instead

Finally visited the instant ramen music museum. If only it were located in the mountains, that would be my definition of heaven on earth

I could hear a symphony in my mind but, unfortunately, it was just the instant ramen museum.

Why, thank you! It's a skill you master when you learn moonspeak, I guess

That's the exact reason why I went there:

- Me worshipping Momofuku Ando -

- Instant Ramen through Time -

- Made my very own "Liramen" -
