Yes, I confirm I said that. The guys from Pendulum are a close second.

Originally posted by Trance Nutter La Trobe is ok. There's several uni's in Melbourne and most of them have a pretty good rep. La Trobe is maybe 3rd or 4th ranked in Melbourne but a fair step behind the top two. Its probably in the fat part of the curve of Australian uni's. Basically the top uni's in Australia are ANU, Melbourne, Sydney, NSW, UQ and Monash - 2 of those are in Melbourne. If you're looking at Cairns you're talking about JCU, its probably one of the best regional universities, but its still not great. Plus, Cairns. Lovely to visit, not sure I'd want to live there. The thing about uni's in Australia is that the actual uni you go to doesn't matter that much, I don't think people really care too much about where people get their qualifications. And overseas, well most people wouldn't know the difference between Charles Darwin and Uni Sydney, nevermind La Trobe and Melbourne. |

RMIT is quite good for engineering and materials science too.
Monash is all-round good.
La Trobe isn't a bad university, and that is what is important. If you're thinking of staying in Australia afterwards, I don't think the actual university you have gone to doesn't matter very much, people don't seem to place much emphasis on the actual institution.
If you go back overseas, apart from a couple of the more recognisable top 6 uni's, people won't really know the difference between La Trobe and most of the other uni's (especially breaking it down to a departmental level). Australia's uni system has a pretty good reputation overseas generally and thats what is mainly going to matter.
Yep, both Melbourne and Sydney have a bunch of good universities and there are a few more scattered around the other major cities too.
The uni you go to essentially means shit all in this country as they all tend to have a decent reputation, both locally and overseas.
Having said that though, UTS ftw!
This video from 1990 made me laugh, but also made me sad. Can you imagine anything like this being broadcast on Australian television these days? I feel like TV was more experimental pre-2000.
