Human Centipede 2
Let's just say it's different compared to part 1. Saw this last night, and i didn't know whether to laugh or cringe.
Just watched Horrible Bosses. Funny movie, good twist with the story line and most importantly, Jennifer Aniston is super hot in this.

Seems like no one wrote anything about Warrior... favorite movie of 2011 so far. Really got into it, even if I'm no fan of ultimate fightinng nor boxing.
Drunk as all fuckin' hell right now.
Watching Baraka. Wow I love it. Had to share.
Melancholia
saw this earlier, and i got to say. a very beautiful film. i can see where the controversy is, and unfortunately yes this movie, like the tree of life, is not for everyone.
Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2
Elite Squad is, by far, the first serious blockbuster to portray the harsh reality of Brazilian slums. Unlike City of God, which is just eye-candy based on real misery (don't even get me started), Elite Squad shows what it is like to be Brazilian and deal with everyday violence. The protagonist, Captain Nascimento, is an extremely well-intended police officer who believes in violence for a good cause - he kills, tortures and makes Dick Cheney look like a puppet. Although the screenwriter though of Captain Nascimento as anything but a role model, the character became a hero under the eye of many Brazilians, tired with the relentless violent of our big cities. Based on a book written by two retired officers and a sociologist, it's an accurate in-depth description of what the current problems law enforcement officials have to deal with in Rio de Janeiro. And, unlike City of God, which may have been a slap on the wrist of conscious viewers, Elite Squad is a epically powerful uppercut full of distilled rage in the cracked nuts of Brazilian society.
Elite Squad 2 shows an even more complex web of relationships behind violence in Brazil, showing how the problem of corruption is entrenched deeply in the government and how difficult it can be to untangle this mess. It shows how I am responsible, here in the capital, for the mess that goes on in Rio. And, as someone who wants my home country to be a safe haven where honest citizens can thrive, I can still see the blood dripping on the carpet after the irate blow delivered against my face.
It deserves an Oscar. It definitely does.
watched the first Tropa de Elite couple of years ago and loved it, and have the second part sitting on my laptop, maybe I should finally watch it:]
oh and
couldnt find the original:[

Contagion kept my interest throughout. I wouldn't ever voluntarily see it again, but it was by no means a bad movie.
Drive was good, awesome soundtrack, solid directing and screenplay. Nicolas Winding Refn have made some good movies before, I recommend Pusher from 1996 (the Danish version, not the new one).
By the way, Shaw, are you serious or are just poking fun at my usual Anti-City of God rant? My ire ebbed away after so many years, so I can't pretend to be as revolted as I used to be, but I can still tell you why I don't like it

Wow, I just finished Elite Squad. I started downloading the sequel even before it was done. GREAT movie and I'm really looking forward to the next. Thanks for the suggestion Lira.
Glad you liked it

A couple of movies I recommend that I have seen this past week:
Snowtown - the story of John Bunting
Revenge: A Love Story
Rundskop(Bullhead)
^Those all seem interesting. Thanks for the recs I'll see if I can find any of em.
Recently I've seen:
If you're a fan of Tribe, I suppose the movie'll be enjoyable. I thought it was decent at times. Much of the doc seemed formulaic and contrived to me, tho. Rappaport should stick to what he's maybe somewhat decent at - acting.
Few characters, all of em interesting. Movie was decent and worth a view if the trailer does it for you but, again, not entirely my cup of tea.
Also finally caught Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. Thought it was a decent flick, much better than any horror I've bothered to check out lately. Seeing the monsters in such detail detracted from the film overall, but it was still pretty strong (disregarding the ending...which I disliked).
Watched this as well (maybe I already mentioned...)
Kitano is really fuckin' fantastic - he can't do wrong by me - and this movie seemed to offer a whole 'nother side of him. Really a stark contrast to the Yakuza stuff that most of us westerners are used to from the master. Dolls was so moving. Borderline melodramatic at times, yet fantastically alive. Beautiful movie.
^^
I saw Terri earlier this year, and thought it was a very well structured movie. A couple of plot holes here and there, and dragged a bit, but overall it was solid. Got to put John C Reilly as one of my favorite actors. He can bring it to the table.
Saw A Boy and his Samurai (Chonmage Purin)
apologies can't find a trailer with subtitles. I definitely recommend this movie. Top all around movie with a nice touch.
Quick Summary: The story of Hiroko, a divorcee, and her son Tomoyo living their lives in Tokyo. They meet Kijima Kasube, a time traveling samurai from the Edo period, who gets sent to modern day Japan by accident. The movie progresses as Kasube tries to adjust to life in modern day Japan, and eventually finds his calling as a baker of exquisite cakes. an enjoyable family comedy.
