It was perfect.

+1

And worst director is just retarded. Kubrick was brilliant and The Shining is one of the best adaptations of all time.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Nov-22-2011 18:46:

It's absolutely true. Many book to movie adaptations neglect the essence of the novel entirely, and that is bad. But people who bitch, in this case, that the movie was bad because it didn't follow the book verbatim are fucking idiots who have no grasp of what cinema is. Outrageous!

What exactly wasn't clear there? Do you mean Woodrow's revenge sequence, which then turns out as a hallucination? I think the tragedy of all that is actually stronger if it's first played straight (more or less) and then shown as nothing but a fantasy. It's not like the film doesn't allude to this earlier; in the beginning you see some of the shots from later parts of the film so it's clear it's not going to have a simple linear storyline.

I thought clarity was lacking in how the movie was all over the place when it came to a timeline - flashes of past and future intermingling with present, at times I was uncertain of the timeline. I didn't necessarily see it as reality/hallucination either. Instead, I felt like the movie was displaying 2 potential realities.

Just watched ^^. Found it to be great, one of my favs of the year. Peter Mullan is such an awesome actor. He doesn't have to speak a single word to say exactly what he wants to.

Had this all weekend but decided to wait and see if any reviews come up.

I ended up watching the prequel to the movie The Thing. Nothing new or spectaular, pretty much the same thing as the John carpenter one. The only difference between the two is that ill still remember Carpenter's one next year but ill have forgotten this one. The alien in those movies is still the scariest and nastiest mofo'ing thing imaginable in my opinion.

Also sa the Ides of March which was interesting but not really my cup of tea.

Guys I need a really funny movie to watch tonight that I can download. Any recommendations? My friend wants to see Hot Tub Time Machine but IDK about that one...

Hot Tub Time Machine is pretty funny actually.

Yeah, I caught this one as well. Haven't seen enough of Hoffman lately, so that was pretty enjoyable. I would've liked to see more of a back-and-forth between him and Giamatti, though. A few plot holes turned me off from the movie at times, but I thought it was enjoyable overall (perhaps a bit dull).

I'm with senor russell on hot tub time machine - thought that was pretty funny as well.

As for other comedy recs - in bruges, the guard, the foot fist way...
idk what else to recommend.

no those are good recs since they're not obvious. IDK about the last one as I'm not a huge McBride fan. In Bruges looks good - DLing. The Guard I was checking out a couple of weeks ago and was kind of on the fence becasue of some mixed reviews on IMDB, but it can't hurt and Don Cheadle is pretty awesome.

Dude, FFW is hilarious.

Posted by Dj Nacht on Dec-06-2011 00:27:

Foot Fist Way and In Bruges are both amazing and funny but in completely different ways

Someone at work today reminded me of Grandmas boy which I found funny as hell when I watched it.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-06-2011 00:27:

Also, if you haven't seen Burn After Reading, it's also fucking hilarious.

Posted by Vector A on Dec-06-2011 00:30:

lolol, Brad Pitt is so great in that movie.

Coen brothers.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-06-2011 00:35:

Also, The Jerk. A classic. One of my favorite movies of all time.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-06-2011 00:42:

And maybe Kubrik was voted worst director because Stephen King hated the movie so much?

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Dec-06-2011 02:40:

"The Cabin in the Woods"

after reading some news about it and watching this trailer, I do anticipate this movie coming next year.

Posted by srussell0018 on Dec-06-2011 02:42:

Just watched Inside Man again last night. So good.

the last thing I saw was Ray (2004) - a Ray Charles biography with Jamie Foxx, who surprisingly delivered some intense acting

loved the movie a lot

The Jerk is an absolute classic. A must see. So many quotable lines.

Grandma's Boy is also hilarious. The kind of movie that's usually done wrong, but they did it just right.

Waiter: "Would monsieur care for another bottle of Chateau Latour?"

Navin: "Ah yes, but no more 1966. Let's splurge! Bring us some fresh wine! The freshest you've got - this year! No more of this old stuff."

Waiter: "Oui monsieur."

Navin: "He doesn't realise he's dealing with sophisticated people here."

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-07-2011 15:39:

Grandma's boy was perfectly cast. I think a major reason it didn't fail is because of that.

Posted by WittyHandle on Dec-07-2011 15:41:

Still, for an Adam Sandler production (thank God he wasn't in it), it's surprising how many people have never even heard of it.
