The problem with brands across borders is that even if we did have Hollister here, odds are they'd target a different demographic. McDonald's, for instance, is quite a pricey fast-food restaurant in Brazil, and Thomas Hilfiger is incredibly expensive (I once heard it's a common brand in the US).

Not really that expensive in the States. They have a couple "upper" lines that aren't exactly cheap, but for the most part it's not that pricey; though it is certainly ugly, in my opinion.

I've been laughing at all the "lads" around here who wear Abercrombie and Hollister. So disgustingly ugly.

Yeah, with "preppy" brands like Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and Lacoste, you just have to know what to buy. Some of the stuff is hilariously ugly, but some of it is classic and looks great when worn correctly.

There's a fine line between "handsome gentleman" and "frat kid" with those types of clothes.

Actually, I can't say I know much about brands in general. I'm very practical when I buy clothes:

• Trousers: Is it cargo? If so, does it have so many pockets it could be mistaken for a uniform of a parachute team? If it does, buy it.
  
• Flannos: Does it have a brand on it? If not, buy it.
  
• Shirts: Is it plain? If so, buy it.
