Are you sure that's not just ad space that you are actively blocking?

Facebook looks the same on my 27 inch monitor. I think that's somewhat normal for sites like that.

Tried it on Chrome where i dont use any add blocker and its the same there. I actually saw some screen shots of a 3 column design but i dont know if that was just a mock up or if someone is really running that.

Strantgely enough, facebook of all things takes up the whole screen on mine. I know it used to do the same as g+ above but for me it got fixed during one of their recent layout reshuffles. Bottom line, this kind of design needs to stop, a monitor is not a damn phone.


Also, ive been looking into those new 21:9 monitors to replace my current setup and i shudder to think how a badly coded site would look on one of those. Granted i wouldnt be running a browser window in full screen in that case but still.

But it's different.

You can have static design (you make it 800 pixels wide no matter what), or you can have fluid design, which fits your screen properly. Of course, if you have a jumbo screen with a 50985x4098509 resolution, navigating the web will feel like eating letters soup as you trawl for words in a sea of blank spaces, empty bits, and everything void.
