This pic (not mine, I never had a camera back then) is taken from just in front of my old house there, but across the street. The view was the same (but higher) from our back deck. Beside our house was about 50+ acres of rainforest. I miss it heaps, sometimes

You always miss the smaller places that you're from but you need to look at it realistically, rather than emotionally.

For example, I would love to go back to my "home" in Croatia but I know that the best thing for me is to stick it out in the Western world for however long. That will eventually allow me to return when I like and in the right circumstances.

Very true. Nostalgia is just one of those things, huh?

As a kid I enjoyed growing up in the country as well, when you hit your teenage years I suppose it becomes a bit 'small', but at least you're active, healthy and learn to appreciate nature for what it is.

Now though, I'd probably never get any work done if I lived where I grew up An appreciation for nature, and being surrounded by it, is something I'm glad I grew up with though.

Not so much of a problem for me, in England my nan made me do chores, rounding up chickens, getting the horses in, picking vegetables and all the other crap that needs doing. So by the time I was 12 going on 13 and dumped in Australia with my aunt and uncle, they sent me off to boarding school... that sucked. Then when I went back to Bathurst on their farm for holidays I had cousins to bash the crap babysit and even worse chores.

We never had chickens, but my chores were pretty similar. We had about an acre or so, and I had to keep the grass relatively mown, and keep the plants pruned. And to fight back the ever-advancing jungle on one side of the property. Cleaning out the gutters all the time, fixing the shitty fence along the front. Chase the rogue cows/horses away (and peacocks, whut, stupid bloody things. They shit EVERYWHERE you could possibly think of walking/hanging clothes/anything). Ah, so many memories

Still had time to be a dodgy teen, and play Doom at every opportunity Or AD&D

Never tasted them, sadly. Sauteed guido is pretty good though. Probably the hormones.

Might have been hippy neighbours birds, if you're within 20km of a proper hippy in a rural area, they will have some peacocks (I dunno why, they just do) and they wander over to your place looking for food or just to get away from the hippies.

Hahahahaha, Maleny was full of hippies. It's where the Folk Festival was originally held, before it got too big and shipped 20km out to Woodford. Hence all the weed. Loads of 'communal land owning' and general unwashedness.
