You guys just don't really do Halloween south of the equator?

I do remember it was approached in the UK with that typical British excitement. As in leave your lights off, but we'll gladly try to sell you theme crap in our department stores.

The department stores and supermarkets have the stuff there, but there's never really been any kind of cultural association for most people. Most of our migrants also come from countries with no history of it either.
Rolling up on someone's doorstep with kids in tow in the evening for the purposes of mooching sweets is also taken 'badly' by the majority of the population

I just imagined someone handing off bud brownies to kids for trick or treat. I wonder how kids at a young age would respond to being high. That would be pretty sick, though. I could just picture it in a local newspaper.
