Thumbs down Magik 7 Sucks!!!

Damn am I the only one here who thinks MAGIK 7 sucks....
Almost a month ago i bought Dj Tiesto - Revolution......GREAT CD.Especially when iI heard it for the first time.Couple of weeks later comes (finally) MAGIK 7.I'm all excited and stuff.I dowloaded the CD (not knowing the tracklist)And what do i hear....The first 2 tracks are excact the same as on REVOLUTION.So i keep on listening.hmmz Insigma - Open Your Eyez. Also on REVOLUTION.And at the end I just can't believe what im hearing..3 tracks in a row mixed the exact same way as on REVOLUTION.
------------
Compare The tracklists

That's what I said about Tiesto a couple of weeks/months ago...his sets are boring cuz he should get some new material...boy!! I was flamed for that!! haha
If you d/l a couple of his last year livesets..they almost all contained the same intro, tunes and stuff...just too lame...
and u know what TA peeps said to me? well, if you have great records..it's normal to play the same set for 2 weeks..d00d..2 weeks? 1 YEAR!!!!!!
(still love his interaction though)

Posted by Paul Griffiths 1 on Jun-20-2001 23:44:

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but when making a compilation, don't you have to obtain licenses to be able to mix certain tracks for publication on a CD? Tiesto's livesets are always awesome, as he may have the full freedom to play what he wants, but on a compilation it may be different. Hmmmm...Just a thought...

Posted by djcresto on Jun-21-2001 00:04:

Well bellie I think you are right. I don't think magik 7 is bad not at all but its a fact that tiesto uses the same songs over and over again. And for magik 7 he could use some newer material.

but I have to say when I'm mixing, I use the same songs in lots of sets, well sets played in my room

And I have enough good material.
I think the way tiesto plays is very good to play in a club.

About magik 7, the title is wrong. Its a very good mix, but its not magik. Magik 6 can be called magik (lots of softer tunes, not 1 hard one)

magik 7 is better to play in a club
and magik 6 is better to listen to at home

first of all, revolution was supposed to be in UK ONLY! tiesto was surprised when he heard it would be released elsewhere... as for magik 7 sucking?! dude, have you heard him mix magik 7? its a masterpiece compared to revolution... revolution sounds like a rookie job, not tiesto... so if u want to hate anything, hate revolution
cheers

i havent heard revolution, but ive had this beef w/ tiesto for some time now. you can... "not" hear a set of his for 2, 3 months and he'll still be playing many same songs.

unlike armin, who isnt as technically skilled, but who's track selection shows risk-taking and variety..

cmon, tiesto, you're the king... dont start (or rather, keep) recycling!

actually pvd would be the king but you know what i mean

Although I don't own Magik 7 yet, I have heard it, and I own Revolution and I can honestly say Magik 7 is better! Mainly because Revolution was recorded in mono, what the fuck's up with that shit?! So what if some of the tracks are similar though, they were done around the same time, n Tiesto really likes those tunes! But I have to agree that he hasn't really been impressin me with track selection much! But I'm still a huge Tiesto fan, either way!!

And yeah I agree that the whole Magik feel has left the series, I wish Tiesto would've kept things a lil more lighter, even Magik 6 was pushing it!! Oh well, it's all good!

hey u can spend only 20 bucks on that cd if u willing to sell it to me for 10 bucks =]

and the thing abouttiesto playing the same in live sets...well i dont think its meant to be heard to the outter outter public because not all ppl in the clubs listen to it..and not like there are lots of new tunes that are great he has to use the same songs...i mean if he was playing the same tunes over and over in ONE CLUB then that will be different but remember this is separate clubs.

Posted by bluE_Neon on Jun-21-2001 06:25:

ya tru Revolution was recorded in mono and it sounds shitty, but 2 me Magik 7 from da playlist is da same as Revolution...last year was da same with Magik 6..Sensation was da same as Magik 6 but recorded in april and Magik 6 released in septermber..its like da dutch king alwayz gives us a hint of something new he will produce or something..ya his set lately r all da same

So you tell me whats so special about the mixing style of MAGIK 7 compared to REVOLUTION...???

I am definitely NOT talking about clubs here! Maybe you haven't heard about it yet..but here in Hollnad...we have BIIIIIIIG parties for thousands and thousands of people...these people mostly go to all big parties...hence the confusion when he plays the same set for a period of 1 year...it is not like he plays it in one lil' club in Rotterdam and then one lil' club in Winschoten (eh..wtf???)...he knows he has a one on one chance that the same peeps will visit his set again..so why doesn't he make ANY adjustments in his sets? I'll tell you why...because Tiesto is afraid to be yelled at when he doesn't spin the tunes we all know already..ha! whatever d00d

Posted by krusader on Jun-21-2001 13:36:

i do agree that tiesto does tend to play the same sets a lot... a good set mind you... but its not like he doesnt get millions of prerelease records

he should take an example from pvd... who not only spins a bunch of good tracks in his sets... but also mixes it up a lot!

and as for tiesto being the king... let him... for pvd will always be the god of trance (at least to me)

Posted by arturob on Jun-21-2001 13:43:

JA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

true this.

Tiesto has been playing same sets since Dutch Dimension... g0d!!!! please. i think he has a playlist done before any of the gigs hehehe...

about the shopping.. he really needs it. hehe..

PvD still da mastah!!

Posted by Blik on Jun-21-2001 13:59:

I don't really like it, it's just way to soft

Posted by Miss Proximus on Jun-21-2001 16:29:

SO WHAT!?! Trance was never meant to be listened to in MONO!! Trance producers go through a shitload of trouble making their tunes sound great in stereo, where the sound can flow all around you, not so it can be heard like it was coming from a ham radio!! Sure Revolution is well mixed and all, but if I had known before hand that the sound quality was that bad, I wouldn't have bought it!! Therefore, seeing as Magik 7 has many of the same tunes, it is better!!

Embargo makes all his tracks in mono, becouse it gives a warmer sound.

Okay so I didnl't have time to READ every single post on this thread I am just responding to what I read in the first post. Basically you have to understand that Revolution was a USA released CD. The Magik series are not pressed for US they are somtimes sold in the US because they are imported. So I suppose the label's thinking was that well make a "Like Magik" CD for the US. Since we collect music on mp3's we get both cd's not realizing that they are not for the same market. Anyways I still don't blame tiesto for this because one CD was under his own label and the other under VIRGIN an american label. Many times these lablel's don't let the DJ's have full control over the track selection. But none the less Tiesto has alsways spun alot of the same tracks in his sets. I personally have just about EVERY teisto set you could have ever downloaded and if you listen to them, the ones that are within a short time period of each other always sound the same. Reguardless, I liked Magik 7 better than Revolution. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by push01 on Jun-21-2001 18:52:

I like Tiesto but he really needs to change his sets. The same stuff again and again and not just at clubs, which I can sort of understand, but on released cd's. He is churning out cd's like butter.
Tiesto=Good
PvD=GoD
