DUMONDE - most disappointing artists of the last couple years?

I think they are.

You ask a lot of people who were on these boards a few years ago who they thought were the best producer/s of 2001, and i reckon 75% would've said Dumonde. I remember the eager anticiaption for every new Dumonde remix that came and all the praise surrounding the German duo.

But what have they become? nothing. I mean you still have your loyal fans who will love every new Dumonde release, but i think if there was to be a poll on producer popularity, Dumonde would be pushing it to make the Top 25 at the moment.

I think they need to try new avenues, as their sound these days is the same as it was 3 years ago.

Thoughts / opinions?

Re: DUMONDE - most disappointing artists of the last couple years?

I agree that their uplifting/epic productions have gone down the drain big time. Kalt/Cold, Mind Made Up, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet etc. have all turned out to be absolutely dreadful. Only exception would probably be the remix of Symsonic, which hints at the glory days they used to have back in the late 90s.

However, I have always preferred Dumonde's harder and more experimental releases, such as Jam X - Warriors, Tony H - Zoo Future (Dumonde Mix) and their releases on Chaos Recs. And in this department they are still pushing quality stuff, such as their No Faces-alias and the techier trance releases on F8T like Alias - Elements. Their DJ sets are also very enjoyable for me, since they retain the will to experiment more with harder and techier takes on trance music. And in the lifeless, wishy washy ASOT-festering world trance is in currently, this kind of DJing is desperately needed.

So basically I wouldn't write Jurgen and Dominik off just yet, but I agree that they are definitely on an all time low creatively speaking.

yeah i agree also..i miss the old dumonde......especially dumode vs lange stuff

Yup I agree with Jan.

No, it's not just DuMonde...it's the entire genre of hard trance. Seriously, it was HUGE in 2000-2001 and look at it now.

i like 2 DuMonde remixes in the past year..

Balthazar - Insanity[DuMonde dub]
Rank 1 - Its Up To You[Symsonic][DuMonde remix]

everything else pretty much sucked..

Posted by ShadoWolf on May-24-2004 16:45:

Human was average at best.

Posted by Cosmic on May-24-2004 16:48:

Only two remixes from the last year were good:

Balthasar - Insanity (Dumonde dub mix)
Rank 1 - Symsonic (Dumonde remix)

Their older stuff is quality, with the highlight of Never Look Back

+1

u got a point here, i thinks too that dumonde has gone really bad in their music for the past few years.
i used to adore those guys with the evil style of never look back, the remixes for marc aurel (the sun, running) , angelic - cant keep me silent , mute missed beat and more and more..
the only thing i liked from them in the last few years is the remix to rank one that reminds pretty much that older style im talking bout.

Hardtrance is a lot more than Flutlicht and SHOKK, and still very much alive and kicking. You just have to dig a bit deeper through all the hardstyle to get to it. And Dumonde was never hard trance under that alias anyway.

I disagree. In my opinion, hard trance only really took off in 2002 and was pretty damn good in 2003, in fact the strongest trance sector by some way.

Dumonde - God Music (Cosmic Gate Remix) is one of my all-time favorites.

Posted by dartrance on May-24-2004 17:58:

Definately agreed.

There remix of symsonic is unbelivable though, but since 2001 they have switched styles for the worst i think

btw

wheres dumondetrancer? he was huge in 2001

Posted by 3xx3r7 on May-25-2004 02:20:

Hey, Dumonde still owns. Even their newer compilations.

Really, you think so?

I f**king love that track, I can't get enough. Plus, whenever I play that for people, it always grabs their attention. I'll be spinning in my living room of about 4-5 people, and when it comes on... you know the part in the break where you think it might kick in, and the voice comes back in "Are you there?", everyone still looks up at me wondering what it is, and it seems to keep their attention until the end

Posted by Stanza on May-25-2004 05:15:

Dumponde have sort of gone weak in their productions. Human was ok, their last good production was probably their remix of Dj Snowman's track 'And then they Start to Dance"..

Otherwise I think Dave 202 and Phil Green take over in this genre.. They absolutey rock !!

maybe the dave 202 and phil green mix is the one you're referring too?

i thought that was alright..

but i would also say that after symsonic i havent heard anything too spectacular from dumonde. I'm still enjoying their dj sets however and am sure that they will make a sweet comeback soon.

I would have to disagree.. i would think dumonde harder than flutlicht & shokk at some points.. for sure their melodies were peakin high.. but their bass and percussion was always very low tone and "HARD" (with the exception of tomorrow)

I think thats probably where the misconception comes in

if you take for example scott project - F (future is now)

screetching high melody.. but definately hard trance

i can agree with you on that, and i personally thought human was a good track

Actually I was thinking more of the tension in bass and beats, the grittiness of sounds, the acidic sounds and the overall harsh, mechanized sonic impact that one finds in tracks such as Wallstdt & Drfler - Consistant Cycles (Uberdruck Remix) and Klasic & Sanders - Space Odyssey (Trance Generators Remix), which is far from what is merely epic trance with a hard kick drum like Dumonde - Never Look Back and Cosmic Gate - Raging (Flutlicht Remix). There's just such a huge difference.

Posted by Cobalt on May-25-2004 11:40:

I think the tipping point was God Music. Expectations were really high for that one, and with such a pretentious title it was doomed to disappoint. Human wasn't great but it wasn't bad; I think people had already had absorbed the idea that Dumonde was on a downward trend and took Human in that light.

Even though the Dumonde name isn't really tarnished yet, the duo's other recent work has just been embarrassing. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet is almost comic in how absolutely horrid it is.

I think they'll come back. But that's been said of many artists who didn't, too.

Dumonde Trancer changed his name after Dumonde went shit. He's now a moderator, I'll leave it to you to figure out which one.
