ALL IMHO....why does it matter?

I haven't listened to all of the series in their fullness, so I dunno.

If you were to change it to best mix-cd, then I'd say summerbreeze

That's my least favorite Tisto compilation ever. it was his first blatant cash grab and an obvious marketing ploy to break into the American market. The mixing and developed narrative always struck me as uninspired in comparison to his previous compilations.

The raw intensity of the Magik series will never be surpassed in my books. I was a fan since early on (around '98). There is so much thought put into every single one, and they still age better than any compilation done by the other superstar (trance) djs. You can easily tell they were all mixed using live turntable sessions, as opposed to the Pre Tools cookie-cut formula of the other djs. I was, and still am, so into the Magik series that I've never been impressed by other deemed classics such as Tranceport. I just like Magik that much. I could write books about every single one them, but I don't want to bore you all hehe.

************, I still like Summerbreeze better. Quite frankly, I don't care why the artist did something, or even how they did it. The only thing I really care about is the final product, and for me, the tracklisting in Summerbreeze surpasses any of his other mixed cds.

Posted by Pio on May-25-2004 06:14:

What I like so much about the Forbidden Paradise and Magik series is that all together they narrate the history of evolution of Dutch trance. ISOS 2 was also a big defining moment, I have to give credit to that one as well.

That's cool. The t/l is definitely great, but he had played many of those tracks in other compilations that came before. I think some of us were spoiled by the brilliance of Magiks 5 and 6 and hence Summerbreeze was simply not as impressive for me.

There's just something about it that doesn't make me go like all the Magiks and ISOSs do. I really can't explain it.

Right now I'm on the Magik 5 zone because someone mentioned Allure-No more tears. This year I've been digging Magiks 1 and 2 for some reason.

I have to get back on track with Magik 3. Ayla into I Know is one of my favorite Tisto transitions ever.

That's a brilliant transition, but Ice Rain into Ayla is an orgasmic experience when you hear it for the first time.

Those were the days when Tiesto's sets flowed, where as now he tries mashing hard-edged songs with softer songs. But he could at one time mix many styles in one set, just listen to 'Forbidden Paradise 5 - Arctic Expedition' for prove.

still listen to magik 5 a few times each week, such an amazing pice of art.

Especially the part:
-FIRE & ICE NEVERENDING MELODY
-YAHEL OPEN YOUR MIND (MAGIKAL REMAKE)
-AIRWAVE ALONE IN THE DARK

Best of the best!

Forbidden Paradise is not a Tiesto series, he only mixed volumes 3-7. DJ Blackout did the first two, and I know Misja Helsloot has mixed some of them as well.

Posted by sandstorm03 on May-25-2004 13:27:

i think all of tiestos series are really good, having to choose 1 is just dumb...
