everyone speak about The Outback FX Sound
Yeah thats right i have watch the thread have you can re-create the sound, but thats the thing, Do you think that it allright to stealit?.. I don't believe that, I hate when people steel!. anyway..
I look up the thread ant when i heard the sound I know a had heard it before, but I dont know wear, to yesterday when i pick up my favourite cd form the wall, the Chicane - Behind The Sun from 2000..
I play it from the start and i begin my mind travel, as i allways do, to i came one of the best songs i know chicane - halcyon.. and then I know, the hole OUTBACK FX is there and I PISS of..
OUTBACK have been well-known on a sound that the have steel!!
what do you think? IS it ok to steel?

it's not like outback is the only ones using the sound, you can find it in many tracks today.
saying that they stole it is like saying that when anyone else then rank 1 is using the supersaw they are stealing it frmo rank 1.
btw. I'm pretty shure that the guys behind outback came up with that sound by themselves, it's not unusual that you come up with the same sounds as other people

hey
really i don't give a shit to know if Outback has stolen a sound or anything. They have made great tracks with a super driving feeling and that is all that counts for me

mize: supersaw is a sound based on a number of saw oscilators (7 if I'm not mistaken) that are detuned
the so called outback sound is also based on oscilators (can probably be done in many different ways, I myself used 2 oscilators when I recreated the sound in another thread a while ago)
I can't really see the difference between em (besides the obvious, they doesn't sound the same
)
to take it one step further, what you wrote in the first post is like accusing someone for stealing a sound when they used a waveform that has been used before
...what is the outback sound?

Mize, what you are saying is absolutely ridiculuous. The Outback FX you are referring to is called, or is what I call, a distortion sweep.
Well, what about a pad that uses a filter sweep? If I use a filter sweep does that make my music derivative?
Not at all.

Am I correct in assuming the "Outback" sound is a distorted filter sweep? Is this the type of sound used at the end of say, 8 or 16 bars?
Can anyone post a link to an example, or maybe a mix on the site that has it in?
thanks guys
The outback sound is like the sound that Carl B used in his track All Day, low pitch grungy saw or pulse wave, often used with flangers. It's a very overused sound though, armin uses it, filo and peri use it, octagen use it, you can't just call dibs on a sound and expect nobody else to draw influence from it.
bringing back this good ol' track to life
just felt I should mention that Above & Beyond used this kind of sound already at 2001 in their progressive remix of "clear blue water"
hell i even use it its beeing used in the new track Johnson and Corbett - Pinnacle
