Question Is Darude a cheese producer?

IMHO, he was, but isn't anymore.

No, he never has been. People merely ascribed that label to him once Sandstorm blew through every radio station on the planet, despite it being a simple anthem trance track featuring an acid line. Darude never intended for Sandstorm to become what it did. Cheese is anything produced explicitly for radio play, explicitly for money, and explicitly without seriousness on the part of the 'producer.' Sandstorm is none of those. Therefore Sandstorm was never cheese. There is correlation between cheese and popularity, but no necessary connection. Sandstorm is one of the exceptions to the correlation.

Once he got exposure and put out other productions, the myth merely perpetuated itself and stuck like a parasite to his work. I wish people would stop repeating it as if it were some earmark of trance veteranship.

That's the guy who shows us the truth.

He sure is compared to other good trance producers (i.e Mr F Corsten, Paul V D, Etc...). Pop trance, I think more suited at a kids birthday bash

You haven't heard anything but the obvious tracks from him, have you?

Posted by josh rising on Nov-13-2004 19:53:

Definitely not. Buy his 2 albums and you will see that there are cheese tracks, yes, but BARELY any. Just as many as any other trance producer these days it seems like. If you still think he's cheese, then I suggest you listen to these tracks from him:
- Serendipity
- Rush
- Passing By
- Ranta
- Obsession
- The Flow
- Burning
- Touch Me Feel Me

took the words right out of my mouth

No, he never has been. I didn't like Sandstorm when I heard it first time but now all his song are pretty good.

Posted by A.J. on Nov-14-2004 15:47:

Well said Cobalt.

I have to say that it was tracks like Sandstorm and Feel The Beat that started my love for EDM and trance, and for that i am obviously grateful.

It is a bit unreasonable to judge somebody as a producer on just one or two tracks, which is what many people seem to have done with Darude.

Posted by XYSHOOR on Nov-14-2004 17:21:

Generaly Darude isn't and wasn't cheese

Posted by slIpitUpnglIde on Nov-23-2004 01:24:

Wow. I'm glad to see that I'm not a douchebag after all for likeing Darude. This is the first time that I've seen a thread that mentions his name in anything other than disgust. It's interesting how an idea latches on... like labeling Darude as "cheese"... and becomes "a well known fact" even if you don't agree with it. Thank you for supporting freedom of opinion!

Darude is cheese, well let me say:
he produces cheese but then his dj-sets are not so cheesy

Post of the month.

Used to be, but not anymore. People seem to overlook his latest album, Rush. Instead, they instantly look at the Sandstorm.

Listen to "Ranta" and tell me it's cheese.

Hey. Question to everyone - how many songs, tracks, cds, sets, performances and live sets you need to see/ hear/ discuss to make a decision if this or that DJ is a cheese DJ?
Could you pls recall any other DJ whose a 5 year old song still makes people dance? Yes, I'm talking about "Sandstorm" and Darude.
It was a song that introduced me to trance music and it still makes me jump off my chair and dance in any time day or night. And the more time passes the more great songs i get from this guy. He is a great producer!
This topic stinks. Before putting your voice "pro" or "con" pls base it on your exerience.

Never heard of it, my opinion is based on the tracks I know, the ones that have been on the radio in Holland:

- Sandstorm
- Feel The Beat
- Music

And I'm sorry, bot those were cheese.... but then let's dig up an very old discussion on the TA boards, what do you define cheese as? for me it's like tracks that are made too make a lot of money!

If Darude wanted to make "a lot" of money, there are far faster ways he could have produced toward that goal. It's pretty obvious that making money wasn't his first priority. Thus your definition of cheese is invalidated so far as the tracks you're lisited.

Nor should making money be the last priority of an artist.

Now it's a matter of MONEY? I thought it was a music forum?
BTW, that's wrong with making money?! Don't you work? Don't you do what you like or what you hate for living? Well, somebody is lucky enough to be talented and creat. I enjoy Darude a lot and as i said before that topic stinked very badly. I have no desire to go back to it.
And good luck to Darude with his new project and i'm sure it will keep me up.
