DJing or Producing??

ok so lets say you had the option of being one or the other, but just one or the other...

you could be an awesome dj or an awesome producer can't have both...

which would you rather be? and why?

dj...

Posted by Hanki on Dec-07-2004 14:17:

For me it's DJing, but of course there must some people keen on producing, because if producers didn't exist the DJs wouldn't have tracks to play in their sets... It's obvious...

dj

DJing

very good question, hard to pick...

producing is simply badass.. no other way to put it... nothing like hearing a track no one else knows about that you find to be really good and know that you made it

then on the other hand its pretty cool to have a long mix session recorded and listen to it wherever you go and think "hey that mix sounds badass, i did that"

It has to be dj-ing, producing is great, but you can't beat the feeling of seeing hundreds / thousands of people dancing there tits and getting smashed listening to your set.

DJ.....you can feel the energy in the air when u'r' spinning.... what you CANT feel when u'r' sitting in your studio and producing..

Can I be an awesome producer and an average DJ?

Posted by Tranceporter99 on Dec-10-2004 05:30:

producer seems more...prestigous, i guess, to me

plus, there is such an influx of DJs compared to producers

DJ

Because, being able to generate sheer euphoria in front of the masses is priceless.

Posted by Camwin on Dec-11-2004 10:25:

for me it would be producing, coz you can sort of let you're emotions out in your music and know it's 'yours' coz you made it. You get a great feeling when you know you have made a great tune, melody, beats everything!!!!!!!!! nothing else like it.

I would rather be an amazing producer..

i guess live pa isnt out of the question

and look at astral projection

they play cds and run amuck

looks like a blast

i couldnt bear playing other peoples music for the rest of my life without contributing

Producing without a doubt. I can live with being a mediocre DJ with awesome productions.

I wish I was a good producer.

It's annoying being shit.

dj for me
playing a set is more like telling a story, you can put different emotions in it
never had/have/will have the intention and inspiration for producing songs

+1

I like the self-expression aspect of producing.

Ultimately, I think Id most prefer being a studio engineer...

Easy, producing!

Posted by gurra on Jan-05-2005 14:37:

Producing, because I find it very satisfying to create (if the result is good, of course).

Posted by bananas on Jan-05-2005 23:33:

producer

Posted by Mycron on Jan-07-2005 13:02:

same here, i wish i would be a good producer

If you want to hit it big, you have to be both. In my opinion, starting as a producer, will benefit you in the long run. It will be a heck lot easier for you to learn DJ'ing with the such a musical background.

If I can only choose one thing, I'd go with producing.

Posted by daydreamer on Jan-08-2005 04:49:

producing, definately.

Posted by NoisyNeil on Jan-11-2005 20:16:

i feel more free in producing then with dj-ing

Posted by Ally_the_Bruce on Jan-12-2005 23:51:

Dj'ing for me, with literally ten's of thousands of tracks to choose from, accross various genre's. The possibilites are endless and with literally hundreds of new tunes coming out a week it'll only ever get better. Then you can either do it for personal listening or do the huge gigs and get thousands of arms waving.
Whereas producing is alot slower, you'll find after a while you'll just get stuck using the same sounds/melodies in your songs and there's no one who can churn out anthem after anthem, even the best have off tracks.
Dj'ing wins for me
