I made some improvements to this track (IMO). What do you think?

Sounds too dissonant.
The music melody doesnt fit with any of the backgrounds.
Whats with the stupid dweeb talk?? Wrecks anything that was good in this.

If i could tune out the vox, then I'd be able to say that the sounds are good. The synth selection is great. Almost symphonic in nature. The pads in particular are good. But get rid of that annoying vocal line.
Heck ... Im starting to like MY vocal song now!

I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Maybe you didn't listen to the right track?

hmmmm... Sounds like maybe you're talking about my older song 1980 hehe

Damn it Digital Aura, now nobody will write nothin' about it or maybe I tottaly jacked it up and made it worse.

Hey,
Listening ..... Nice Super Saw Chords, Hats are cool, strings, oh drama cool , this could be an orchestal Track played in Edirol Orchestal, breakdown at 1:57 is very cool, I repeat, this could be a great Orchestal Track, sounds kinda also like for a Castelvania Video Game .
In overall, is pretty cool, the synths are a bit drys though, and Transitions kinda Basic, but I liked nice melodys u got,m I just would work a bit more with the effects, good work .
Kopi =o.

Posted by cartlemmy on Apr-11-2005 16:47:

Yay, thanks kopi...I wish I had Edirol Orchestral
Good point about the transitions, I would have to say that they are mostly all too abrubt. Is this kind of what you were thinking? I tend to get a melody I like and want to get a track together ASAP. hehe. As always, love the feedback here. Pile on any negative critism everyone, makes it so much easier to get better!

*Mental note I need to learn to extend my mixes and make them flow more.

yea and following this, where the bass-line apart of the melody goes up an octave, u should of repeated the melody 2 times more, then lifted an octave.

e.g:
[ normal melody ][ normal melody ][ normal melody ][ high melody ]

sometimes this doesnt work, depending on how many bars the melody takes up.

also another tip on learning song structure is basically listening to lots of songs :P

Posted by cartlemmy on Apr-11-2005 20:12:

Yeah, you're right it would work well with the structure like that. Thanks! I should have the lastest version up in b4 week's end.

I am saving to get Reason 3 and a Midi keyboard, then I will make a better mix of my songs, hopefully.

Posted by mark_the_gooner on Apr-11-2005 21:59:

okay, but i wouldnt worry too much about a midi keyboard, since u dont really need them if ur doing everything on the computer.

I don't need a keboard, but I tihnk it would help in a few ways.

-It is much easier (faster) for me to punch out melodies in real time than to write them by hand. This will be a tremendous help to me, because so many times I have had a melody in my head that has been bastardised by the fact that I forgot excatly how it went by the time I wrote it into the sequencer.

-I will alow me to experiment around with variations and such without having to write it down.

-Emotion. Being able to use the velocity of the key hits and controller knobs in real time with my fingers allows me to put more emotion into it.

These things are important to me

Nice orchestral arrangement in this track but no real defining element that makes it stand out.

For me this track is far too thin in the mid areas. There is a sub bass thing going on but nothing that gives it any drive.

Nice chord changes though and nice crisp finish.

Keep 'em coming.

Cheers

Interesting point about the song lacking drive, I'll take that into condsideration.

Thanks nemesis.

I have taken a listen to this at home now and one of the major factros that strikes me is that you could probably benefit from having some more bass melodies at various frequencies, it can even be as simple as just having something that complements the sub bass sound that you have.

If you take a listen to the pro songs you will very often find that they have at least two different basslines. Take for example 'AS the Rush Comes'... maybe not everyones choice in track but that has something like 4 going on.
Developing good basslines and melodies is an art in itself and one that should be studied as you will get some great results when you master the knack of doing so.

I don't think your lack musical ability or you wouldn't be able to put together what you have.

All the best

you have a lot of good ideas they just seem to be a bit all over the place. melodies are great, i can't come up with that melody, but their overall placement throughout the song just doesnt make it all compliment.

if you tell me how long youve been mixing i might compute in those factors into my analysis.

keep up the good work tho ^-^

Posted by cartlemmy on Apr-12-2005 18:21:

Yeah, I'm working on the structure...

I've been mixing rock music since 1999, but thats kinda different than trance. I started trying to make trancish music last summer.

Okay I've been reworking some parts of the song... What do you think? Right direction? Wrong? hmmm??

Stereo Trance

Thanks!
