Absynth 3 Questions

Is it me or is this incredibly hard to learn how to use? How have you guys faired up using this? Any tips and pointers?

What do you find difficult about it?

Two things:
1. Blank preset.
2. Some free time.
Nothing else is needed. Everything there is pretty basic, 3 Osc's, FX window, Envlope window, Midi control window, Library and so on.
Every Osc got a Filter box and a Modulation box which can be turned on and off by clicking on it.
In the bottom of the window you got the same stuff (and an FX box) each Osc got only that those effect all the 3 Osc's at the same time.
In the Envlope window you can control all the envlopes, in the FX window you can assign an FX (only 1 for each instance if I'm not mistaken) and so on.
I'm guessing your not a noob to producing so you probably know all that but just in case you don't.
If you need more info just ask a specific question.

But be carefull, once you get to know it well, you can't let go. =)

the only thing that I find wierd and I think it puts a lot of people off is the numerical values rather than sliders. Having so many pages is damn awkward as well! Other than that its really not too hard, envelope control is particularly easy. Still probably one of the harder synths out there though because of the flexibility of the routing.

i dont like it.. i like it in theory, how each osc has its own envelope and such, but i just dont like the sound that comes out of it.

The "advanced" stuff can be pretty daunting, but if you start simple and make regular sounds you should be able to get the hang of it. Then start playing with custom waveforms and the crazy modulation/effects.

well i'm sure for some simple synths that i can make it...but the numbers and the different pages makes it every hard to understand. I listen to those pads and those effects and I'm like totally lost. Some are synthesized and some are samples. It's kind of scary because there A LOT of controls and settings that I don't know what to use...

I wouldn't mind for that kind of tips. The mod part is still a bit too rough on me even though I use it.

@ Mysticalninja:
The sound can basicly be almost any kind.
I have emulated an acoustic guitar (not perfect but similer), Sander type's of sound, Armin Plucked stuff, electric basses like Mikes and Marcels and lots more.
It can do lots, but I like it for round or sharp stuff. I don't like making "fat" stuff with it cause it doesnt work well for me there, JP makes way better fat pads that it can imo.

Don't start by looking at the presets. This may work for a lot of synths but I think with Absynth it's just going to confuse you more. As I said, just start by working on some simple sounds, the same as you'd create in an ordinary synth, and then start tweaking individual controls one by one.

There's a nice Absynth 3 DVD tutorial out there to purchase, google it up. I learned off of the DVD tutorial, it teaches everything about Absynth 3 - and it also includes exclusive footage with Junkie XL giving you a few tips on his techniques. Once you'e watched the tutorial fully, you'll be able to synth program easily. Hands down.

+1 to that. I looked through only 5 of the 11 or so files and I have a good grasp of how to create most sounds.
