Sidechaining With Battery 2!!!!????

ok so sidechaining in battery 2!

i open up battery in a midi track for my kick, i then open up a v-station in a midi track for the bassline, then open a quatro group channel, i send the channel that my kick is on eg 1/2 to the group channel and do the same with the v-station, the sc compressor is added to the group channel and here is a video which explains the rest.....

done correctly it works fine but the reason im posting is that i find when lowering the threshold which causes the ducking effect, reduces the punch of the kick and for the ducking to be effective the kick has to be of equal volume or the ducking effect isnt that great!!!

anyone know y this is and how to get round it???

an ideal solution would be a signal kick like in normal audio sidechaining but im new to sidechaining and far from an expert! so anyone who can shed some or a lot of light on this would be very helpful and much appricated??

you have it set up wrong.

the vstation output is sent to the quadro group channel

for the kick have two tracks, one will be your real kick, and one will be sent to the sidechain. the sidechain one you shouldnt hear at all. threshold shouldnt affect either of them.

you have to go into the crazy 4 way panner and put the sidechain kick down. if your using cubase press f3 and click the little box on your sidechain kick, and pull the 2 dots into the bottem left and right corners.

do you use this yourself? ... is it used similar to Logic's compressor whereby i have my kick track and a bass track with the compressor ... then i just send the kick output to the bass track?

I'll assume you're using Cubase and describe exactly how I have stereo sidechaining set up in one of my songs, with the vocals triggering the compressor on the leads.

1. Quadro group with GUP-1 (Kjaerhaus Golden Series Compressor). "Side-chain" is enabled.

2. Lead and Acid are assigned to the Quadro group.

3. Vocals have a pre-fader send to Ls/Rs of the Quadro group. (You want pre-fader so that you get the optimal signal for triggering).

With this setup, whatever is sent to Ls/Rs will trigger the compressor which will ultimately affect L/R. I haven't watched the video you linked, but this is how I do stereo sidechaining, and it works for me. Hope it helps!

after a lot of head scratchin this is how ive done it lol

1/ open an audio stereo track, record a 4 to the floor kick and import it to the audio track! this will be the signal..

2/ open up a midi track and add e.g v-station, this will be the bassline that will get the sidechaining effect.

3/ open up a stereo group channel and add the plugin sidechain compressor. on this channel select stereocombined panner and drag both stereochannels to the centre.

4/ route the signal kick to the group channel, balance the kick hard left.

5/ route the v-station/bassline to the group channel and balance the bassline hard right.

i use waves sc and in it u select key mode L>R...

thats it, the audio kick/signal triggers the sc which effects the bassline/v-station.

simply open battery now and use as u normally would but without having it routed to anything...!!!

such a simple straight forward way of sidechaining....

again im no expert as i only learnt this last nite!

whats the benefit of it being stereo and what would u use that for??

for sidechained vocal reverb, reverb doenst sound good mono. and for sidechained pads, lightly sidechained leads.. pretty much for sidechaining anything that isnt bass.
