Jonas Steur album previews
The first Jonas Steur artist album 'Born for the night' will be released 17th of september on black hole recordings so in the spirit of 'try before you buy' we put up a site where you can preview all the new tracks on it:

Why did your first track have to be with Jennifer Rene
I loved some of your productions in the past and on that note and I'll take a listen to the samples on your myspace before I pass judgement. I never knew you were a TA. Good luck with your release.
oohhh nice one i like jonas' productions

Aw interesting/good idea Jonas!
Expecting some goodness
And ya, never knew you were a TA
YES!!
Finally, you mentioned this album for so long and I was getting eager to hear it!
EDIT: Great to hear so many lost IDs I heard on your mixes!
Also if you read this Jonas, as a fan I beg you not to stop producing your melodic stuff, the melodic tracks on your album are just beautiful.
It's great you can produce other stuff but please keep making melodic tracks as well.
Yeah I must agree this is a pretty banging album for most of the tracks, a few of them...not so much. But then again i have never listened to an album where i love every single song.
Not what I expected at all. I'm actually a little disappointed. I guess I'll have to wait to hear the full length of the songs but from the 2:20 samples I just wasn't intrigued.

listened through the samples and it alot of it sounded pretty generic and dull to me. The Jennifer songs goes away instantly for me since I can't stand her voice. The only tunes that sounded pretty cool were Rise and Shine and Born for the Night. They had that cool old Chicane touch. And the latter one had a nice funky rhythm.
Too bad that the rest of the album didn't take this path.
Nightwalker is doing it for me. Awesome track
Level Up has great sounds too; but the guitar totally ruins it... I wish the track had taken another direction; something more with the 'nintendo' sounds.
The rest doesn't do much to me tbh, but it's 'ok' I guess. It's a relieve to see a producer trying something else instead of exploiting the same melodies over and over again.
Too bad cd 2 is a mixed cd; would've bought it for sure if it was unmixed
Sounds like a great album from the previews, but I agree with the poster above...MORE MELODIC TRACKS!

I must admit it's not at all what I expected either.
Not that fond of the housier tracks but I do like Nightwalker and Nuit Noire from the new tracks, especially the last one.. I've been missing that kind of trance a lot, with those chunky and tribalish undertones. Good stuff.
Liking Fall to Pieces/Born For The Night a lot as well.
im a big jonas steur fan, cant wait for this album
Born For The Night is hot until 1:30 in that sample. Sounds like a job for an AV Edit. also needs some congas and an offbeat ride cymbal
I would like to try mixing that marimba line with Dennis Ferrer - Transitions.
Some of the sounds in Nightwalker are very cool. I just think it's too theatric.
What is Level Up? "Git 'er Trance"?
I think the album cover is kind of bizarre. I reeks of photoshop effects. Kind of like if you could identify every preset and sample in the tracks. I don't get why New York City images are included since you're belgian, and less why Japanese rising sun imagery is included. Also there is some American Wild West imagery that is kind of out of place which might be related to the "git 'er trance" i was referring too. Then again, since it's been used so much in certain kinds of fashion graphics related to the mainstream club scene, (diesel, for instance) i have to assume that this was done just because it seems 'fashionable'. And the myspace style head stuck in the middle with the overexposure is just plain creepy.
it's as if someone handed the designer a list with the following words:
Exotic
Industrial
Globe-Trotting
Emo
Trance
Cowboy
and then the designer just tried to cram as much stuff into a 4.75"x4.75" space as possible. Generally I feel too many people use graphic design as a way of propagandizing what they're doing. This seems to me like you're trying too hard to 'represent' what the album is "about" through the artwork, so it comes out a little iconographic, and you're trying to claim lineage from other scenes like the budget fashion scene, maybe pandering especially to the americans with those vintage style motorcycle gang images and the new york city landmarks images.
side note:
what eric prydz has done to dance music will last a LONG time
mmmh don't like it that much...maybe i'll buy it for mixed disc 2, i know your mixings style is great, and those tunes
Let's see...
Fall To Pieces: Ew, Jennifer Rene and her "singing". Dub Mix, and I'll approve it as chill music.
Nightwalker: In our series of shit "Electro-Trance" with horrible beats and stupid melodies...
Level Up: Uh... what? Was the aim to create an amusement part with one attraction for the whole thing?
Seven Moons and A Bit: Basic "Electro-Prog" with a "WTF"-level beat. Sure, go for an unique beat, but it doesn't have to be SHIT.
Pure Bliss: Like this style hasn't been done to death. And this isn't even a good shot at it.
Rise and Shine: I facepalmed. It's that bad.
Born For The Night: MARIMBAS ON INFINITE LOOP
Left In A Daze: Clichd cheez with a few unique touches that don't save it from being a trainwreck.
I Know: I think my left eyebrow just went through the roof.
La Nuite Noire: should be "feat Octagen", since it more of the style of that Moelands project. Other than that, basic Techy stuff, nothing outstanding whatsoever.
Overall judgement is that I wouldn't buy it.
