So who actually plays Breaks?

Ive recently stumbled across the joys of breakbeat, and listened to and downloaded some awesome Breaks sets off this forum, but its not your typical 'hands in the air' type of set that is normally heard in clubs and venues.
Im really looking to produce something in the 'way out West' style - and was wondering

a)who actually spins these tracks?
b)Are they widely played in clubs - if so, which?
c)Is it really a boisterous market?

The Messiah Project.

a) krafty kutz, the stanton warriors, general midi, liquid todd (depends on the type of breaks.. WOW might be more like prog-breaks.. but still.
b) not much.. edm'ers dont seem to like breaks. i think they remind people of hip/hop too much.
c) I can't tell you for sure, I dont have any breaks dj friends.

Progressive Breaks is a great genre. I love to mix it in with Progressive House/Tech House.

Digital Witchcraft - Fingerpaint (Original Mix) is a perfect example of Progressive Breaks and also is one of my faves.

Balance 006 Mixed By Anthony Pappa disc 1. Progressive Breaks doesn't get much better than that.

Drum & Bass DJ Friction is experimenting along the lines of stanton warriors & krafty kuts. He has a mix cd out sometime september entitled "this way up" which i've had a couple of weeks and it's very nice

I can't beleive I forgot to mention the kings of prog-breaks..
Hybrid

fwiw
Freeland is playing very boring stuff nowadays, hardly breaks, more prog.. but I like when Adam plays more old breaks..

bring back:
adam freeland - coastal breaks and tectonics..

DJ Monk (last time i saw him he was awesome, people seem to be mixed)
Soul of Man

anyone in fingerlickin' records, deepcut, uhhh used to know more breakish labels been out of them for a bit

Breaks have seem to lost the subtlety somewhere along the way as well. Nowadays it all seems to be that nu-skool guff that's really quite dull. Prog breaks seems to have died a bit and that's a shame.

That being said, there's this mix in my sig...

Check out Greyarea and Derek Howell.

Yeah, but he's changed his style a lot. Check out is GU Mexico City album, loads of electro...VERY similiar to what the Ed Banger Crew is playing! Still though, I enjoy Adam Freeland, he's a fun dj.

not all is 100% breaks, but pretty close on some sets (i asume you see which)

these are also not to be missed:
Retroid feat Pinar Aybar - Indirections (Original Mix)
dTolio feat Elina Q7 - Surrounded by the Seas (Retroid Remix)

Trafik
Burufunk
Rogue Element
Introspective, Splitloop, AMB, and the rest of the Sinister Recordings producers
Stefan Anion for more melodic stuff

You live in Manchester, get yourself along to Tangled and in the upstairs room for a decent breaks experience in one of the countries longest running breaks nights.
