Fans of the Essential Mix may be disappointed...

.. to learn that Radio1 has yet again shoved dance music to the rear and moved the EM to Fridays at 0300-0500 UK time (0400-0600 CET, 2200-0000 EST). Click here for the Full Schedule change

Don't know how we're supposed to manage to tune into the EM, i'll be awake at 7am for Uni and they expect me to stay awake until 5am the next morning

Radio1 quote: "Friday and Saturday evenings become "the best club flyer in the world" dedicated to dance music genres (Fridays) and black music genres (Saturdays)".

Looks like a minority community in the UK now has a majority piece of prime-time radio airtime!

Nothing like a schedule shafting with a bit of racialism on top!

I wonder what's the ratio of actual listeners of EM to people who just download the sets later on

considering the EM was on at a reasonable time of 12am long ago, and then 1am, and then 2am and now finally 3am, i'd imagine listeners have slowly moved away from the live broadcast

Wow, so they moved Jules to Friday also and at 1AM now so everything's on Friday... at least I don't have to waste my time on Saturdays with it now.

Sarcasm.

Pretty much all popular music today is "black" in its origins.

Except pop-rap. Black people had nothing to do with that one.

They have canned the Trophy Twins...and also Aaron Ross' house show from 1xtra

It appears britain is now all encompassed within the M25 orbital (not the dance music act, the road) and those outside it don't matter when it comes to radio 1.

Fannies.

I love black music. I look forward to some James Brown, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, and Earth, Wind & Fire on Saturday nights.

They have a whole station devoted to "Black Urban" music. All the presenters talk like they are ghetto noggas, but most of them went to posh schools and drama colleges.

I hope when the analogue signal gets shut off they start a station for dance music.

yeah its probly because the essential mix is downloaded mostly, well i do all the time and pete tong is on from 7-10pm most nights and gives out the info as to whos on and says you can also download it from the website if you wana listern again etc i think this has prompt the majority to download not listern live, usless your having a session say no more....
