Video Game music appreciation thread

I was looking something up on youtube and stumbled upon these two themes from rogue spear and raven shield - some of the best title tracks I'd ever heard in any video game, and it triggered some crazy shiver-inducing nostalgic flash.

Back when rainbow six was still fucking awesome.

Final Fantasy tunes for sure, and Actraiser for snes was the shit back in the day. Are we looking for current or old school?

The soundtrack of Final Fantasy 7...

Aerith's Theme...nuff said!

And of course..the main theme of FF7:

Mysterious world, beautiful world, dangerous world...all in one amazing song. Nobuo Uematsu is the man!

Can't forget the Wipeout games on PS1! Those were true classics..blazing fast futuristic races and perfect racing music. Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Underworld, Junkie XL, Fluke, Photek, Prodigy, etc.

Here's a couple choonz from the game:

and from Wipeout 1:

That track was just pure magic, brings back a load of nostalgia . I'd never actually heard the full-orchestral version, only the midi version that was on the original soundtrack taken straight from the game.

I'd read somewhere that Aeris' death was amongst the most shocking video-game deaths in history. It was rather emotional, especially when your a hormonal 15 year-old playing the game for the first time

Another one of my faves, is from another one of Square's epic's, "Xenogears".

Oh man, don't get me started. I had her in my party the entire game. I took my time with FF7 and had been playing around 45 hours before it happened. I had her leveled up so much...with all the best limit breaks. She was healing and reviving my entire party like crazy...basically making us immortal. I expected to have her with me through the whole game. She was also one of the most pivotal characters in the story...the only one with the power (Holy) to stop Sephiroth. Needless to say, I was shocked when it happened..

FF7 still gives me chills to this day.

What a game that was.

Have you guys seen the ps3 tech demo they did of the opening?

Imagine the possibilities with 13.

I've always been a huge fan of that.

That is probably my favorite. Unless I'm forgetting something, which I probably am.

Some of my personal favorites:

Ninja Gaiden on NES - Level 1 music
Street of Rage on Genesis - Level 1 music
Splatterhouse on TG16 - The church music when you get golden clever

I know thats kind of random but its what comes to mind at the present.

I hated that one. The version in UT99 just had so much more personality to it - just like all the tracks in '99. The 2k4 version just sounded so bland in comparison.

'99 just had the best music of the series overall. It had some great breaks tracks, industrial, dnb and some crazy early 90s style trance with acid riffs. The other UTs were just generic 'soundtrack' music (save for a few exceptions).

Always fantastic. My favorite MM tracks were all from the X series, specifically 1 2 and 3 on the SNES.

Flame Mammoth
Storm Eagle
Morph Moth
Bubble Crab
Crystal Snail
Zero's theme (x2)
Zero's theme (x3)
Volt Catfish
Gravity Beetle
Toxic Seahorse

Bubble Crab was always my favorite of all.

the original unreal had some great stuff in it too. i used to have a save i kept because of the music in a particular spot so i could load and listen when i wanted

and can i just say that 'impossible mission' fucking lived up to its title. brutal. easily the hardest game ive ever played. i'd like to meet anyone that finished it.

All games back then were fucking impossible.

But yeah... that one was ridiculous. I barely made it anywhere in that game...

"Destroy him, my robots!"

haha

Yeah unreal had some great tracks too - produced by the same guy I believe. You know, it's really easy to convert those utm files to mp3s.

It makes me happy to see others representing the C64.

And, my mom and dad both beat Impossible Mission, FYI. My mom also beat Maniac Mansion on the C64. It took her 3 hours with a complete walkthrough (no saving!) My parents are bigger gaming geeks than I.

R-Type on the C64 had PHENOMENAL music.

Well... after the C64 talk, I searched for some other vids. And I can across this one...

I was never able to beat Zak McKraken though. But, I think there was something wrong with my game. 'Cause I watched a speedrun of that and there was a part where he did something and the thing that happened after never happened for me. Haha!
